This is not hard. I strongly support SB 79 and SB 677 to make it possible to build more housing in California. Aisha Wahab is my state senator, and I strongly urge her to support these bills as Senate Housing Chair.
M. Nolan Gray 🥑@mnolangray

California is in a deep and worsening crisis, and the two most ambitious bills to address it are in trouble. Please read and sign on to my open letter to the Senate Housing Committee Chair asking for support on SB 79 and SB 677.

@ZakRed567 They blew their narrative wad all at once. Gemma’s the real victim; other stories/characters = footnotes. No “what’s it mean” is left, only “what’ll happen” tropes. E.g., after 2:7 why would we still be curious about the goats? // Shame they ruined the epic show they’d built.

Linguistics has the opportunity to stand out as the only "real discipline" if all linguists quickly brush up on their von Humboldt, de Saussure, Bloomfield, Boas, Sapir, Harris, and Chomsky

@chrislhayes @Leahgreenb ANACHRONISM ALERT! Grover Cleveland was no automatic lame duck when term#2 began, because we didn’t ratify the 22nd amendment until 1951.

@hiattb “Baez’s singing voice, a more classically beautiful instrument than Dylan’s” - understatement much? 🤣 (great piece btw)

Happy New Year! Some MATH for 2025: 1. 2025 itself is a PERFECT square: 45² = 2025 2. It is a product of two squares, namely: 9² × 5² = 2025 3. It is the sum of THREE squares, namely: 40² + 20² + 5² = 2025 4. The last perfect square? 1936 44² = Year 1936 5. It is the sum of the cubes of all the digits from 1 to 9: 1³ + 2³ + 3³ + 4³ + 5³ + 6³ + 7³ + 8³ + 9³ = 2025 6. It is also the squared sum of all the numbers from 1 to 9: (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)²=2025 The year 2025 is MATHEMATICALLY remarkable. Let's hope it is also remarkable on the human level! Health, happiness, prosperity and peace for all! 😀🎉

@swarheit Weird semantic hill to die on, @swarheit. (“Abhorrent” work for ya?) Tactical wisdom aside, my criticism is how Dan Campbell (!) became a turncoat … against his own defense - its players, coordinator, coaches , staff and fans. An act of battlefield desertion. Unconscionable.

Incredible turn of events. Brazil turns the ball over deep, Albert jumps on it and plays a quick through ball, and Smith peels away from it, recognizing she was offside, to let Swanson run through and finish. 1-0 #USWNT.

@AnnieSciacca “Things as simple as voting – we see a tax all over the country on the right to vote and access to the ballot box.” Think Cecilia said “attacks” not “a tax” …. 😀

I'm guessing Dan and Marc won't be quiet for long either. Their show developed a committed, international fanbase. I'd bet listeners will follow them pretty much anywhere.

Personally speaking: Might be weird to say but I think I've been a bigger 'Around the NFL' fan than I was a fan of any actual NFL team these last few years. Professionally: I have some details on what is next for at least one of the Around the NFL Heroes....
Gregg Rosenthal@greggrosenthal

We started the Around the NFL Podcast 11 years and over 1,600 episodes ago. We didn’t take a single break in all the years since, which is part of what made the last six weeks so heartbreaking. I never expected our last show on May 23 to be our *last show,* but here we are.
