SATURDAY SHARE - KATRICE LEE Katrice Lee went missing on her 2nd birthday on 28 November 1981 while out shopping with her mum and aunt at the Schloss Neuhaus NAAFI shopping complex in Paderborn, West Germany. Her father was stationed out there with the British Army in the King’s Royal Hussars and the family lived in married quarters. At the time of her disappearance, Katrice was wearing red wellingtons, a turquoise duffel coat, blue & green tartan pinafore dress over a white frilly blouse and white tights. She had lovely curly brown hair and brown eyes, with a slight squint in the left eye. The toddler had a pink birthmark slightly to the right of the base of her spine that resembled a rash. The NAAFI was in a town, rather than on the base so civilians were able to use the store. It also meant the Royal Military Police (RMP) had to liaise with the German Police. Unfortunately they refused to raise awareness of Katrice’s disappearance with the media. This resulted in crucial evidence being lost and any leads being followed up during the critical early stages. In fact, it was six weeks before an appeal was published in the local newspaper, by which time no trace of Katrice was found.
