SBME Seminar - Ex Vivo Organ Perfusion (19 March 2026) The School of Biomedical Engineering cordially invite you to join the following seminar: Speakers Dr Michael Hsin Dr Michael Hsin graduated from Cambridge University and the Cambridge University School of Clinical Medicine, where he received his MBBChir and later his Doctor of Medicine . He trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery in London UK (Royal Brompton/ St Bartholomew’s / London Chest Hospitals), and underwent a research fellowship at Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He had further training in clinical and translational research in lung transplantation in the Toronto General Hospital and the University of Toronto, Canada. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh, a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and a Fellow of the HK Academy of Medicine. He is an Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong, and Honorary Consultant of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery of the Queen Mary Hospital. He is also the Chairman of the Thoracic Surgery Division, The Hong Kong University Shenzhen Hospital. His research and clinical interests are minimally invasive thoracic surgery, metabolomics in lung transplantation and ex vivo lung perfusion. Dr Oswald J. LEE Dr Lee graduated and completed his specialist training in Hong Kong. He subsequently completed a clinical fellowship in Cardiothoracic and Transplant Surgery at St. Vincent's Hospital in Sydney. He is currently a consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. He is actively involved in the Heart & Lung Transplantation & VAD programs and also the development of the organ machine perfusion program in the department. Dr Jonathan Yeung Dr. Jonathan Yeung is the Kress Family Chair in Esophageal Cancer and Director of Thoracic Foregut Surgery at Toronto General Hospital and an Associate Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto. He completed his MD at the University of Toronto and a PhD focused on gene therapy and ex vivo lung perfusion in the laboratory of Dr. Shaf Keshavjee. His clinical practice includes general thoracic surgery, lung transplantation, and foregut surgery. His research focuses on applying molecular approaches to personalize care, including organoid-based prediction of chemotherapy response in esophageal cancer and blood-based biomarkers to detect early allograft injury in lung transplantation.
