Good bye all… VOTE for social justice…I cannot support current direction of Twitter.

Today in Rankin Chapel,Dr. Freddie Haynes reminded us in historic Rankin Chapel that justice is motivated by love… He reminded us through his remix to “stay woke and not fall for the okie-doke”. Social workers we must VOTE for victims of injustice. Our ancestors demand no less.

Howard is a special place. VP Kamala Harris joined us at Rankin Chapel Homecoming service this morning and extolled the leadership experiences gained as a student at Howard. So grateful for Howard leadership nationally and globally. So pleased to see social work students & alum!

Enjoyed a day of exceptional learning with Moorland-Spingarn archivist& team who introduced PhD students to the “white” glove experience of research with archival records. Another exceptional opportunity@Howard as I experienced the intellectual development of a new generation.

Just finished watching HBOMax documentary Katrina Babies… very emotional. As social workers, we must more fully explore resilience- Who defines it is raised at end of documentary— when resilience becomes the intervention for failed policy it should be of tremendous concern.

The big secret at Howard is that EVERY SINGLE OFFICE is currently staffed by 0-2 people. And those 0-2 people are responsible for EVERYTHING in the WHOLE school relating to whatever critically important thing their office does.

I welcomed our new MSW “Social Work Master’s Tools” cohort who will follow the sage advice of Audre Lourde & reject the master’s tools that continue systemic oppression. So glad to be joined by Prez Frederick in photo & hear the supportive welcoming greetings from Provost Wutoh.

Howard University School of Social Work is a proud supporter of the American Association of Service Coordinators’ conference being held this week in Anaheim. Wonderful meeting with colleagues across the country who supported their residents to prevent social isolation. #AASC2022

A joy to lecture. on servant leadership with 25 Young African Leaders in the 2022 YALI cohort at Howard University. They are quite an enthusiastic groups with amazing potential!

So pleased to be at a book discussion with my colleague, Dean Yolanda Pierce as she discussed her new book “In My Grandmother’s House.” She shared how Black mothers and grandmothers have historically transferred lessons of protection and care to future generations. Great book!

It’s intense… at the NASW conference, Dr Janice Edwards and PhD candidate Angela Wilbon discuss critical race theory thru lens of clinical practice and the HU Black Perspective. They challenged us to take responsibility for ensuring that “otherness” is appropriately treated.

Make some noise! As social workers we are painfully aware of the impact of overturning Roe v Wade. Our clients need us to advocate for well-being & quality of life before and after birth.Our values stand strong & we will continue the fight to protect reproductive the rights.
