I worked with a guy in the navy He said the officers on a ship would always dump cargo off the side before porting This was always done to increase their budget If they went to port with lobster - they would subtract it from the lobster budget (since it wasn’t fully used) However, if they didn’t return with lobster, they would ADD to their provisions … since they used it all (by dumping it off the ship) Eventually, the officers had lobster / steak / pies for every single meal they had so much of it
