And in the middle of all of this: - A 16-year-old girl who attempted suicide - A 23-year-old struggling with addiction after a suicide attempt yesterday - A mother with cancer caring for a child with epilepsy while seeking help for her suicidal daughter - A man who was about to end his life with shattered glass before picking up the phone This is the daily reality of answering Lebanon’s National Lifeline (1564), where every call reflects the collision of our crises: war, displacement, poverty, chronic illness, addiction, and the silent toll on mental health. In contexts like #Lebanon, a crisis hotline is much more than an emotional support line. It becomes a first point of access to the entire health and social protection system. In a single shift today, our team provided: - suicide intervention and safety planning - emotional support during acute distress - referrals for psychiatric care and medication - shelter and humanitarian assistance referrals - support for displaced families - guidance for parents responding to suicide attempts - connection to emergency services and NGOs Behind each call is a trained responder, a volunteer, holding space for someone who may have nowhere else to turn, while silently living many of the same struggles themselves. In times of war, mental health emergencies do not pause. They multiply, and set the stage for the long term psychological consequences that follow conflict. Lebanon’s National Lifeline continues to operate 24/7, responding to hundreds of calls each month from people facing the most difficult moments of their lives. Every call our volunteers answer, is a proof of why this Lifeline is essential to our national infrastructure, and must be protected and sustained.

Iran today is not merely defending its “regime” or nuclear program. It is fighting for its survival as a state. It now faces a full-throttled, US- Israeli assault targeting its military, political, and civilian infrastructure. This war is the culmination of a decades-long strategy of state destruction already seen in Iraq, Libya, and Syria, preceded by years of economic warfare, sabotage, assassinations, and internal destabilization. If Iran survives this without capitulating to US demands designed to dismantle its strategic autonomy and sovereignty (such as halting all nuclear enrichment and retreating from its regional role) it will mark a decisive departure from that model. It will reassert sovereign statehood in the Global South and offer a strategic template for resisting externally engineered state collapse.

If you want to understand Iran: Imagine if Trump were permanently the president of Iran and held a coalition of traditional Catholics, nationalists, white supremacists, etc. Basically, various strands of conservatives that don't always get along. Trump has the hard job of keeping them together. Now imagine if Canada and Mexico were actually very strong and rich, and America was poor and isolated, and the UK was hell-bent on removing America's government. Now imagine if the incel trad catholics of America were given free rein to patrol women by Trump, and they did so with impunity for decades. Then, eventually, one of the cases of brutality was so bad that it led to a national uproar, which basically wiped away whatever confidence was left in the Trump administration. That's kind of where we're at.

Secular Iranian identity is a spent force, no matter how much they try to shoehorn it. They've had five decades in the freest, most open societies, and they are wealthy and educated. In this time, they have not created an alternative vision for Iran or even a real institution.

I began crying when I saw his picture and the interview had to be stopped for 10 minutes. I was held for over 7 hours and released on bail conditions (pre-charge): - Not to publish, post, or communicate material or statements that incite hatred, discrimination, or harassment against any individual or group based on race, religion or ethnicity. I told the officer that I do not agree that I have done any of the above and therefore do not know what I am signing for. I was told: ' Posts on jewish supremacism'. I do not believe any of the above has much to do with Britain but the majority of the interview was centred on 'israel' and 'israelis' including their feelings, their entity, and their future. Just to reiterate: I am a British citizen. I am an NHS doctor with 0 patient complaints or clinical errors who has just been suspended for 15 months after a 2 year campaign by the pro-'israel' lobby. I am part-Palestinian. I have just witnessed the mass murder of my people by the 'jewish state'/'israel' and the IOF - using my tax pounds. I have never incited violence or harm. I have criticised a foreign entity, individuals who identify with and/or support this foreign entity and the genocide it is committing, and the system of oppression underpinning the 100+ years of dispossession, murder, violence, war crimes and crimes against humanity that the Palestinians are enduring. Our freedom of speech and expression, our freedom of assembly and our civil liberties in Britain are under attack. Free Palestine. Free Britain.

Poland has started construction of the Eastern Shield on the border with Belarus and Russia, – Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The Eastern Shield involves the construction of fortifications, barriers and military facilities on NATO's eastern borders. The shield will be 700 kilometers long, will cost nearly $2.5 billion, and is scheduled to be completed by 2028. Biden is putting the screws on Qatar and Egypt to get them to agree to the hostage deal. CNN reports that: "As the Israel-Hamas conflict is on the eve of entering its ninth month, US officials are urging Qatar, Egypt and Turkey to turn up the heat on Hamas by using multiple pressure points. They’ve asked multiple countries to threaten to freeze the bank accounts of Hamas members and clamp down on their ability to freely travel in the region, according to two US officials. In many cases, members of Hamas have long been able to operate freely despite being members of the terror group." Most importantly, Qatar is threatening to kick Hamas out: "The US has urged Qatar – who allows Hamas to operate a political office in its capital – to declare that it will kick out the terrorist group if they don’t accept the deal, according to one of those US officials. After months of telling Hamas that they could risk getting kicked out, Qatar has now actually made that threat, that official said. This has reportedly been happening behind the scenes since Biden made his speech. This is a welcome move. Hopefully, it affects Hamas. It is unlikely to move Sinwar but it is an acute issue for Ismail Haniyeh and the Hamas leadership in Qatar. Perhaps it will move the needle.
