Selling real icecream across the world but selling palm oil goop here all this while. "According to a report in The Economic Times, Peter ter Kulve told the daily: “We are not a frozen dessert company anywhere in the world; we are an ice cream company. In India, we changed everything, everything.”"

15,000+ tanker bookings/day is not a record to celebrate — it’s a warning. Rapid urbanisation, falling groundwater and rising demand are pushing our cities toward water stress. The answer lies in action: save every drop, harvest rainwater, and strengthen community efforts through RWAs. #WaterCrisis #SaveWater #RainwaterHarvesting

🚨 Rising #food #inflation is squeezing #Hyderabad households. The #Iran conflict, higher freight costs, supply disruptions, and local profiteering have pushed prices of edible oils, pulses, and vegetables sharply higher. Consumers are paying more despite only modest increases in wholesale rates, raising concerns over market manipulation and affordability. 📈 #Telangana continues to record one of the highest inflation rates in #India, while experts warn that #monsoon performance will be crucial for food prices in the coming months. #Hyderabad #Inflation #CostOfLiving #Telangana #IranConflict #Monsoon2026 newindianexpress.com/cities/hyderab… @XpressHyderabad @NewIndianXpress @Kalyan_TNIE @PrasannaRS2 @TelanganaCMO @revanth_anumula

Happy World Potato Day! tasteatlas.com/potatoes Long before it became the ultimate comfort food, the potato was an engineering marvel developed by the Incas in the high-altitude Andes. When it finally crossed the Atlantic in the 1500s, it completely rewrote human history by providing a cheap, reliable crop that practically ended regional famines and sparked a global population boom. The trick to cooking them right isn't about the recipe, but the starch profile shown on this map. Waxy varieties like La Ratte have less starch and tight cells, so they won't fall apart in a boiling pot or salad, while high-starch floury types like Agria burst open when cooked, creating that light, fluffy texture essential for the perfect mash or a shatteringly crisp french fry.

The great Indian oil spill: a cold-pressed-to-refined thriller Indian consumers footed a staggering Rs 1.72 lakh crore bill in FY26 to import cooking oils. This year, the bill may surpass Rs 2 lakh cr. This is way more than the entire annual budget of the agriculture ministry. And unlike imported fertilizers and crude oil, no one shields consumers when global cooking oil prices spike. India imports 60% of its cooking oil needs now. But in the early 1990s, India had achieved a brief period of atmanirbharta. Then it lost the plot to cheap palm. Then to high-yielding GM or transgenic soy- that it imports in large quantities and consumes, but won't allow its farmers to plant. With its atmanirbharta, India is also losing a part of its culinary heritage. Kachhi-ghani desi oils making way for solvent extracted foreign oils. Misery for local mustard, groundnut, sesame, soy growers who switched to other profitable crops like rice, maize, horticulture etc. Yet, there's more to the story which involves the legendary Verghese Kurien of Amul fame. With some arson, deaths and conspiracy theories thrown in. Borrowing Kurien's words, a final question: Who are the "scoundrels" who got us here? @livemint Long Story. Packaged foods companies start making limited front-pack label declarations, as FSSAI’s long-overdue FOPL guidelines gather dust.. But standardised sugar, salt & fat content on front-packs is still largely missing ⁦@EconomicTimes

Taking Ashwagandha for stress, sleep, anxiety or “hormonal imbalance”? But do you know FSSAI and AYUSH ministry have flagged the use of ashwagandha leaves due to its higher withanolide (withaferin-A) content and potential liver damage risk? Most people taking Ashwagandha don’t know what exactly they’re consuming. The part that’s usually studied is the root extract, but many products don’t clearly mention this, and some may contain leaf extracts or mixed formulations. On top of that, dose, strength, and duration are all unsupervised. Some take it for stress, anxiety or sleep issues and just continue for months or years without any monitoring. Now, what does actual clinical data show? Ashwagandha contains multiple active compounds, mainly withanolides, and these are suspected to be responsible for both its effects and side effects. In reported cases, liver injury due to ashwagandha-containing supplements (most commonly root extracts, though exact composition is often unclear) typically develops within 2–12 weeks of starting the supplement, often presenting with a cholestatic or mixed pattern — meaning bile flow gets affected along with liver cells. A recent case series (2023) by Dr. Cyriac Abby et al. looked at patients with ashwagandha-related liver injury — most were taking it for stress or sleep. Some had very high bilirubin levels, and a few with pre-existing liver disease progressed to acute-on-chronic liver failure and even death. Even in otherwise healthy individuals, cases have shown jaundice, itching, fatigue, and raised liver enzymes, which gradually improved after stopping the supplement, sometimes taking weeks or months to settle. Many of these cases involved commercially available products that were tested. Before you buy that OTC ashwagandha - first know which part is being used, how much dose you’re actually getting, or what else is mixed in and most importantly, what does the evidence say? Something that sounds “natural” does not mean safe. @theliverdoc @dr_sivaranjani #MedX #MedTwitter
