@LuxSylva_ "you call it character consistency, I call it lazy fanservice."
It's objectively character inconsistency.
That said, whether you find these core aspects to Jam's character lazy is subjective, and not what I ever was interested in persuading you on.

BlazBlue is currently my favorite fighting game series, and Arc System Works Magnum Opus in my opinion, since it's most recent installment BlazBlue Central Fiction is a game that has unique mechanics specific to almost every character thanks to the game's drive mechanic. Additionally, the game has TONS of defensive options, and visually striking character designs. That said, Guilty Gear was always right behind it, since I really liked Guilty Gear Xrd for similar reasons to BlazBlue Central Fiction, though I do think BlazBlue does some things better. Having said all that, I didn't like Strive when it launched, since some of the characters got reworked and became less interesting, with examples like Jack O and Ramlethal coming to mind. Additionally, I felt the character designs took a HUGE nose dive in quality, and character designs like Jam is a perfect example of this.
Jam is among my top 3 favorite Guilty Gear characters in terms of character design and personality. And one of the things I love about Jam's personality is that she is very flirtatious, and has ZERO qualms in using her body to appeal to men she finds attractive, it's part of the reason why her panties can be visible shown during her certain animations in previous version of Guilty Gear, she KNOWS what she's doing. And Jam, like I-No and so many other characters in Strive got butchered in the character design aspect in order to appeal to a "modern audience".
I have supported and bought every fighting game and DLC character made by Arc System Works up until Strive's release and I haven't bought a fighting game made by them sense do to them continuing to chase said audience, even if it's to the detriment to many long time fans. It's one of the many reasons I don't want a new BlazBlue by current Arc, since I know characters like Litchi, and Makoto are most likely going to get visually nerfed too. Even if the game play in a new BlazBlue is good, WHY play that new title when the old BlazBlue games exists with good game play AND great character designs.
So disappointing man..

@MofuMofuDraws @Discord1996 @SavedAClickFGC "They made Johnny gay just to affirm the retcon."
I didn't play Strive past launch.
Is this true?
And if so, What's the context to this?

"If “showing underwear” is the core of a character, then honestly it feels a bit inelegant."
It doesn't matter if you found previous versions of Jam "inelegant" , what matters is character consistency in a story, and I would argue that these changes to her character design are inconsistent to Jam's character for the reasons I listed in my original post.
"Jam is a girl who runs her own restaurant, she’s energetic and a bit flirty, sure,"
BOTH things can be true at once, Jam is an entrepreneur trying to do everything she could to run an successful business by almost any means necessary, And she is ALSO a flirty and openly sexual character, since Jam is a character that highly values attractive people. Specifically men, and doesn't have a problem showing off her own body to people she is attracted to in order to get what she wants. This flirtatious side and using her sex appeal to get what she wants has been core aspects to her character for YEARS now. And to change certain aspects of her character that has appealed to many long time fans simply to appeal to a wider audience is a betrayal to them, and they have every right to feel that way and voice their displeasure and not want to buy and support this.
"I’ve talked about this before, and I really believe you can be sexy without being vulgar."
This statement is Subjective, since what people are offended by is going to VARY from person to person. For example, there are some people who are offended by gratuitous blood and gore often found in horror slasher movies and games you see in Mortal Kombat, but I don't think those works should be banned either. The reality is if you don't like a piece of art, then you don't have to consume it, since no one is forcing you to watch it, and not everything has to appeal to everybody.

If “showing underwear” is the core of a character, then honestly it feels a bit inelegant.
Jam is a girl who runs her own restaurant, she’s energetic and a bit flirty, sure, but I genuinely find it distasteful when the focus is on showing her underwear like that. I’ve talked about this before, and I really believe you can be sexy without being vulgar.
Showing legs in a tasteful way is perfectly fine, but constantly exposing underwear feels like something that should’ve stayed in 90s anime.
And no, I’m not saying this out of purism, I just think the character deserves to be presented in a better, more refined way.

No room for wokeness!@Wokenessisevil
The censorship in Guilty Gear Strive is just ridiculous. And this is getting more common in modern Japanese video games. #StopCensoringVideoGames

"it fits the character" excuse."
I wouldn't call character consistency an "excuse."
"I would rather devs take risks with redesigns than play it safe knowing it'll sell regardless"
And your entitled to feel that way, I just hope you understand why I and MANY other longtime fans feel differently than you.
English

@InfiniteAzure22 I would rather devs take risks with redesigns than play it safe knowing it'll sell regardless and hide behind the "it fits the character" excuse.
English

Every time we get a strive redesign I'm always so bummed that Baiken and Johnny just didn't get redesigns because the devs were scared of changing their cash cows so now we have 2 XRD characters running around with the rest of the cast rocking their redesigns.

gratuitously designed tacky clothes, an already bad song (& song name) & a pet rabbit, that'd limit her kung fu abilities while holding it, is added to distract her from handsome men so she won't say or do anything racy or problematic for Strivers/sjws.
Strive ruined another one
