Is Truth rejected because it is too far from us or because it is too close, and demands too much?

As we prepare for the Third Sunday of Lent, let us thank the Angelic Doctor for these meditations. Let us guard our liberation. We have been freed from the world; let us not return to its chains.

St. Thomas warns that this liberation must be "accepted." God does not force us into Heaven. We must walk through the gate He opened, following the path of the Cross and the precepts of the Church.

We just attended the Traditional Latin Solemn High Mass at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in New Orleans. Strong preaching (by an orthodox Jesuit), reverence for the Holy Trinity, inspiring choral music, quiet to pray, confession before Mass, and the beauty of holiness. I asked Christ that every parish could be like this.

What is the value of your soul? St. Thomas would point to the Crucifix. That is the price. To live in sin is to treat the Blood of God as something cheap. This Lent, let us live worthily of the price paid for us.
