#Ethiopia: Fatal flooding claims four lives in #Addis_Abeba The Fire and Disaster Risk Management Commission has reported that four individuals have tragically lost their lives due to flooding in the Weregenu area of #Bole Sub-district, Woreda 11, in Addis Abeba this morning. This unfortunate incident occurred following heavy rainfall. It has been determined by the commission that constructions along the riverside, which were not in compliance with the city administration's master plan, have heightened the risk of flooding for the community. In response to this issue, the commission is currently implementing permanent solution works as outlined in an approved plan aimed at reducing this risk and vulnerability. Residents are strongly advised to adhere to any precautionary instructions that are issued by both the city administration and the Fire and Disaster Risk Management Commission during periods of heavy precipitation to prevent the recurrence of similar tragic incidents. As the autumn rain season approaches, the commission has issued a warning that an estimated 1.9 million individuals nationwide could be impacted by floods resulting from the seasonal rains. Furthermore, it is anticipated that over one million people may experience temporary displacement from their homes as a consequence.
