Due to snowmelt and warmer temperatures, we will be ceasing our winter trail grooming operations for the season. We hope you were able to get out and enjoy the crisp air, beautiful views, and groomed trails while they lasted!

The BLM and @Inyo_NF approved a comprehensive river management plan and environmental assessment for the Cottonwood Creek Wild and Scenic River in Inyo County, outlining a joint management approach for approx. 21 miles of river. Read more: on.doi.gov/3zEZsXw

As the temperatures begin to warm UP 📈, the historic snowpack in the Sierra will begin to go DOWN📉. 🏔️This snow melt will result in increased runoff, as well as rivers, creeks, and streams flowing faster than normal with ICE COLD water. 🥶 #CAwx @Inyo_NF @InyoSheriff

In addition to creeks, streams, & rivers flowing faster than normal due to snow melt, the water in these waterways will be VERY COLD! Make sure to use caution near creeks & other waterways as hypothermia can set in fast with even a short time spent in the water. #CAwx @Inyo_NF

Caltrans will begin emergency repair work on State Route 168 W, U.S. Highway 6, and State Route 120 W tomorrow. Work is scheduled for Monday through Friday from 7 am to 6 pm. There will be one-way traffic control on all three roads and drivers may experience 20-minute delays.

Recently, interpretive panels were installed and space was made for a future native plant garden at White Mountain Visitor Center by the Inyo Hotshots winter crew. Come by and see them for yourself!

Our incident management team has been making progress on clearing snow and assessing roads across the forest. Please stay off our dirt roads if you can. If you get to a washout or deep ruts, please turn around. Don’t be the one that adds more time and cost for us repair it!
