What do states owe #refugees they have created? My new book, out now, argues that asylum should act as a form of reparation for the unjust harms of displacement bit.ly/3qoizAn

📚 In our latest Book Review, Lea Augenstein offers us a look at recent works from Marcia Morgan, @JSouter2, & Ashwini Vasanthakumar, arguing that the 3 challenge coloniality about agency in migration studies well- but could go further. Read here ⤵️ doi.org/10.1177/030582…

@RefugeePolitics Hi Marcus @RefugeePolitics, that's a great example, thanks, and not one I've found discussed in work on displacement without migration or movement so far - will consider!

@JSouter2 Different case that came to my mind: People stay where they are, but borders/state systems change/move. Happened to me and 17 Mio. others born in East Germany :) And in many other cases. Sorry, cannot help with the literature you are looking for :(

I'm currently working on how displacement may occur without movement/migration, and one possible case I’m considering is that long-established residents may feel a loss of home due to large-scale immigration to their neighbourhoods, whether for prejudiced reasons or not...(1/3)

Arlie Russell Hochschild's 'Strangers in Their Own Land' about the American right is the closest I've found so far. Thanks in advance for any suggestions (3/3)

Anyone on here who works on migration know of any literature that addresses this, either directly or indirectly? I’m wondering if literature on the impacts of immigration on trust/social cohesion (which I could do with brushing up on) may be relevant (2/3)

One day until UCU members at @UniversityLeeds start *indefinite strike action* caused by senior management's mishandling of the dispute over pay, casualisation, workloads and equal pay. The vice chancellor could solve this at any time but is inexplicably choosing not to. 1️⃣⏰🚨🪧

(5/6) Next is @JSouter2's 'Asylum as reparation' (@Palgrave). Souter delivers a thoughtful and hopeful rethink for anyone disillusioned with the quagmire of states' obligations to refugees. @Se_Clark1's review here: doi.org/10.1093/ia/iia…
