Holographic Pog Slammers

@HwoodScrptReadr I’ve been on a big 70s movie kick lately and I’ve found so many interesting gems with great character actors and performances. It bummed me out since now movies are almost all corporate content.

Me and the fam started watching the SUPERMAN movie. Turned it off about halfway through. Wife is on her phone – checked out, scrolling the socials. Daughter heard the ending is good so the two of us will watch the rest tomorrow. This is not a good movie and I have questions:

@HwoodScrptReadr Yeah they spend a fortune. I think the infrastructure and craft of model making is largely gone, and VFX heavy movies being a dime a dozen now, there isn’t the same kind of pressure to prove as earlier films to prove how capable CG is.

@JamesDelorean I honestly don't understand it bc they already spend a ridiculous amount on these movies and if anything the tech is so much better now it should be cheaper to produce. I also don't know why they couldn't use a real dog for a single frame of it and why they stopped using models

@HwoodScrptReadr I’ve seen some interesting YouTube videos and posts recently that say CG looked better 20 years ago. I don’t disagree. Might be a byproduct of the VFX industry being squeezed for resources. Studios trying to cut costs on labor leading to a compression of delivery timelines.

Did the CGI look better on the big screen? Am I crazy or did SFX look better like 10-15 years ago? Who is this movie for? The first 20 minutes is like a data dump of exposition. The younguns must be bored out of their minds...
