December is HIV/AIDS Awareness Month, and on World AIDS Day, we honor the scientific advances that transformed HIV from a deadly epidemic into a manageable condition. From antiretroviral therapies to PrEP and ongoing vaccine research, nonhuman primates, humanized mice and other animal models have been essential at every step in understanding, preventing and treating HIV. Science saves lives. Continued research makes today’s lifesaving treatments possible. 🧪❤️ #WorldAIDSDay #HIVAIDSAwarenessMonth #AnimalResearchSavesLives #FBR

@GIRCOR @The_EARA So, considering that NAMs have overtaken #animalresearch for more than two decades now, I can’t help but wonder why 95% of candidate drugs still fail 🤔

@GIRCOR @The_EARA This aligns well with my own experience: when I completed my master in molecular and cellular biology around 2000, in vitro research and bioinformatics were already well established. I guess that most of my classmates never worked with animals at all.

❓Décider de taxer la recherche animale sans consulter les chercheurs ? Ce n’est pas protéger les animaux 🐭, c’est fragiliser la science 🔬 et les patients 👥. 👉 Le dialogue doit venir avant la décision. Toujours. f.mtr.cool/cdjpzlccqy

But fundamentally, an internal model can work with or without motor inputs. The core challenges: sensory ambiguity, coordinate, and dynamic transformations, remain the same. And the way the brain solves them is exquisitely captured by the internal model framework 🧠✨

So, to conclude: the study appears plainly inconclusive. That said, the question is interesting: motor inputs to the NU are sparse compared to the anterior vermis. Testing how the NU handles active motion is absolutely worthwhile.

In a previous thread, I discussed how @TheCullenLab 's recent preprint challenges (about 5% of) my work… … if the results hold. 😉 x.com/JeanLaurensLab… So what did I mean by that? 🔎🧵
Jean Laurens@JeanLaurensLab

In a recent preprint, @TheCullenLab ‘challenge’…. about 5% of my work on how the #vestibular #cerebellum implements internal models of self-motion 🤔 And validate the other 95% 😀🙏 (That is, if their results hold 🔎) researchsquare.com/article/rs-721… 🧵
