I'd like to see this! I'm reading a biography of Jane Austen by Lucy Worsley. Jane spent her first 3 years with a wet-nurse in a nearby village and then returned to family home. Must have been traumatic. Leading to themes of separation and loss in her writing.

Pussy willow is traditionally called 'palm' due to its use in today's #PalmSunday processions 🌿🫏🌿 Branches of goat willow are a common substitute for palm throughout Europe hence today can also be known as 'Willow Sunday'🌿 #FolkloreSunday

Having grown up in a family of Air Canada pilots (father, brothers, nephew, niece training now), the horrific crash at LaGuardia airport strikes very close to home. My deepest, heartfelt condolences to the grieving families of the pilots, and to all those injured. May time and loving support help to heal, and to honour those whom we lost. May we also learn from this tragedy, to make air travel safer for all.

Did you know Second World War escape maps were made of silk—not paper? During the war, thousands of Allied airmen carried secret maps printed not on paper, but on silk or treated rayon. Why silk? It was waterproof, tear-resistant, silent, and could be folded into tiny spaces—perfect for hiding in boots, shirt collars, or survival kits. Unlike paper, silk didn’t rustle or fall apart in harsh weather, and it could be retrieved quickly in an emergency. British intelligence even smuggled these maps into POW camps inside Monopoly boards and playing cards. They weren’t souvenirs. They were survival tools—trusted by soldiers trying to cross hostile terrain and reach safety. A reproduction of one of these original SWW escape maps—based on an artifact held at the Canadian War Museum—is available through the Legion. poppystore.ca/escape-map-rep…
