@Cookies_Castle @NicholasFerroni Literally every teacher I know (Kentucky) has a stash of quick food supplies to give to kids who are hungry. We teach and help the whole child and that includes helping the whole child be able to learn without barriers we can fix, otherwise we would not have chosen this career.

Conservative pundits and politicians are trying really hard to convince Americans that teachers (who buy their own supplies, feed their students, care about their students, and work extra jobs because they are so underpaid) are somehow evil and can’t be trusted.

@Cookies_Castle @NicholasFerroni We strive to see them grow and break the cycle of generational poverty and trauma. Metaphorically speaking, we feed them hoping that we don’t have to feed their children. Our goal is that their future children aren’t coming to school hungry, dirty, or lacking basic human needs.

@Cookies_Castle @NicholasFerroni It is discussed as part of a larger societal issue that needs attention. Until the root of the problems that our students face are magically fixed then we will, as a whole school, knock down the barriers of learning for all kids.

@Cookies_Castle @NicholasFerroni We did choose the profession and we feed our kids if needed. I don’t know why you brought up both facts as if they are somehow connected. Teachers don’t discuss the fact that we provide WAY MORE than academic help because it is not our content area.

Embrace your mistakes. Perfection is poisonous and unattainable. Just keep making progress and model perseverance for your students. Make some struggles visible so they can know these things just make you stronger.
