El Papa no anda repartiendo madrazos a nadie. Ni hay cristianismo conservador o progresista. Hay cristianos conservadores y progresistas y todos somos igual de pecadores, felizmente. El Evangelio es el mismo.

@ArmandoEn_Zo Exacto. Y al mismo tiempo han predicado la paz por siglos. ¿Incongruente? Tal vez. Pero esa es la Iglesia: un cúmulo de tantas cosas que no caben en los libros.

@JesusSCarrillo No se si wokes... es anacrónico eso. Pero dudo mucho que podamos catalogar a Alejandro VI, Sixto IV, Julio II o Inocencio X como "wokes". Lo que sí es que el obispo de Roma, en su calidad de jefe del Estado Pontificio, fue guerrero y tuvo ejércitos hasta bien entrado el s. XVII.

No solo los papas de los últimos cuarenta años son woke. Desde hace un milenio son woke. Es que los buscadores de paz no son bienaventurados, son gente woke. Se sabe, ya lo dijeron los sesudos tuiteros.

@ArmandoEn_Zo El punto es que la paz siempre ha sido una preocupación para la iglesia. Y también la defensa de la fe lo ha sido. Y cuidarnos de amenazas. Vamos, esas cosas pueden coexistir en un mismo Papa. El Papa Gregorio VII murió en 1085. ¿Unos son woke y otros no?

@JesusSCarrillo 100% profe. Pero tanto asi como un milenio?... El Deus Vult de Urbano II es de 1095. Calixto III planeó e intento convencer a todos de una Cruzada tras 1453 (no lo logró). Y tan tarde como 1571, la batalla de Lepanto (que inició la debalce otomana) fue auspisiada por Pío V.

Yes, he really said that. Yesterday Vice President JD Vance criticized Pope Leo XIV for not knowing enough theology: "I think it's very, very important for the pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology ... If you’re going to opine on matters of theology, you’ve got to be careful, you’ve got to make sure it’s anchored in the truth," he said, at a Turning Point conference. One of the many, many, ironies about that statement is that it came in response to Pope Leo's comments about war and peace and, specifically, the concept of "just war," which originated with St. Augustine. As many have already noted, when the Vice President was making his comments, Pope Leo XIV, a member of the Augustinian Order, and twice Prior General of the Augustinians before his election as Pope, was visiting the hometown of St. Augustine, then called "Hippo," now in Annaba, a town in modern-day Algeria. For good measure, Pope Leo XIV, the man critiqued for insufficient theological education, earned not only a master's degree in divinity, but also licentiate and a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. JD Vance's recent conversion to Catholicism is beside the point, because many converts are of course not only highly intelligent (and learned in theology) but faithful and energetic Catholics. We rejoice over everyone entering the church. What most of us do not rejoice over, however, is a deadly combination of inaccuracy and hubris. Pace, Vice President Vance, but the current war in Iran is not a just war under Catholic doctrine. You can hear that from church leaders from across the theological spectrum, from Archbishop Timothy Broglio, the head of the military vicariate and former head of the @USCCB, to Cardinal Robert McElroy, Archbishop of Washington who holds doctorates in both theology and political science. You can look all that up online. Suffice to say, the Vice President doesn't seem to understand the tenets of just war. Nor does he seem to understand the fundamental position of the church, which is for peace. "War is always a defeat for humanity," as St. John Paul II said. If that authority isn't enough, then turn to Jesus who said, "Blessed are the peacemakers," not "Blessed are the warmongers." And after the Resurrection, the Risen Christ says to the frightened disciples not "Vengeance is mine" but "Peace be with you." Incidentally, the day before, the Vice President said that the Pope (and the Vatican) should stick to teaching about morality, also seeming to forget that war and peace are profoundly moral issues. For his part, Pope Leo was focused yesterday on his spiritual father, St. Augustine. After what seemed like an emotional visit to Hippo, he celebrated Mass at the Basilica of St. Augustine in Annaba. During his homily he said, "The primary task of pastors as ministers of the Gospel is therefore to bear witness to God before the world with one heart and one soul, not permitting our concerns to lead us astray through fear, nor trends to undermine us through compromise." @Mony_de_Swaan @macariomx @elcolmex Cuestión de perspectivas, pero en la mía el seminario es un esfuerzo institucional que no puede existir sin que el Colegio lo promueva y cuide, no solo es de unos cuantos. Y creo también que el asunto de la UHJ fue mal tratado y se cometió un error grave.

@Mony_de_Swaan @macariomx @elcolmex No hablo por los estudiantes que mencionas, pero en 2014 hicimos un paro estudiantil que no sucedía desde 1968 por Ayorzinapa. Y el seminario sobre violencia y paz ha tratado muchísimo el tema sobre desapariciones en Mexico. Tu comentario me parece injusto con el Colegio.

Unos jóvenes en @elcolmex —supuestamente preocupados por la vida del prójimo y los derechos humanos— tomaron instalaciones, cerraron bibliotecas, colgaron mantas, redactaron "reportes" y exigieron romper relaciones con un país lejano. Esos mismos jóvenes no han dicho ni pío, no han dedicado un sólo tuit, no han cerrado un aula, no han colgado ni una manta, ni emitido un solo mensaje de solidaridad ante 132,000 paisanos desaparecidos o las miles de madres tratando de reconocer 72,000 cuerpos en SEMEFOS. De algún extrañamiento frente a su gobierno, que olímpicamente desconoció a la organización a la cual han citado durante dos años para sustentar su indignación previa, ni hablamos, ¿verdad? Sarta de hipócritas. P.D. El propio Colegio también ha guardado un silencio muy obediente, como es su tradicional costumbre. Organizó la exposición "La danza de la purificación de los dioses mongoles", eso sí. Pero sobre los desaparecidos o la vergonzosa posición del gobierno, mutis. Aquí no pasó nada. A seguir bailando.

@Mony_de_Swaan @macariomx @elcolmex Ah, y olvidé mencionar que varios alumnos míos de las últimas tres o cuatro generaciones de Relaciones Internacionales y Administración Pública han escrito tesis sobre desapariciones, colectivos de madres buscadoras, y otras. Sí se ha hablado, y bastante, sobre eso que comentas.

A los cristianos nos dicen que sublimamos la muerte, pero es porque no entienden lo que nosotros vemos en la Cruz: ahí está Dios encarnado al límite. El cuerpo de Jesús destrozado por su adicción a la vida. La nuestra es una religión que solo entienden los adictos a la vida.

“Nadie da lo que no tiene y por eso para ayudar a otros antes tienes que ayudarte tú”, dice la autoayuda de moda, que provoca nada más que la gente se quede patinando en sus miserias. La Cruz del viernes santo es la entrega sin medida y solo ella conduce a la resurrección.

Este mundo se jode cada vez más por la mezquindad de quienes creen que todo se trata de ganar y que, con estar bien ellos, todo va a estar bien. Por eso es más que nunca pertinente mirar de frente y sin miedo la derrota que implica la Cruz y, en ella, el amor sin cálculo.
