"We did not need to be in this position. These strikes were unnecessary." @WesStreeting explains why 👇 Watch his message to NHS staff continuing to work during strikes.

@wesstreeting @pa_StephenNash Quackery is what has been permitted. Non medically qualified individuals being encouraged to practise medicine. That’s not progressive or innovative. It’s regression to an era before the Medical Act and patients were harmed then and have been harmed today.

🔴 I believe Dr. Ross did very well in staying calm in front of this illiterate Karen and the other guys who are attacking doctors. It’s worth mentioning that @theJeremyVine ‘s salary at the BBC for 2023/2024 is in the range of £285,000–£289,999 for doing nothing, and yet he had the audacity to comment on doctors’ pay. This is another reason doctors should continue to strike.

The fight for fair pay is back on. We did it last year, we can do it again 📢 Our ballot for industrial action will open on 27 May. Update your details here and get ballot ready myaccount.bma.org.uk Doctors, know your worth!

Reports from @FT show 6k+ applicants for just 1700 training posts last year. Doctors are being left in limbo, without posts and unable to progress in their career. In an understaffed NHS this is a scandal. Government must urgently increase training posts. ft.com/content/ddb51e…

Australian hospitals vs UK hospitals in two images:

We're pleased to share the second in our annual series of #StateOfMed reports – Workforce. This focuses on the changing shape of the medical workforce across the UK. This year’s report shows that the medical register continues to grow, as does the diversity of the doctors on it. Doctors’ career paths are also changing, with more doctors than ever before choosing locally employed (LE) roles, working outside of formal postgraduate training pathways and with local contracts. In England and Wales, where data is currently available to us, the number of LE doctors grew by 75% between 2019 and 2023 – this makes this the fastest growing cohort on the register. As we look to the next decade, it’s critical that all doctors have the infrastructure, support and resources they need to achieve their ambitions. That’s in the interests of doctors, as well as the interests of a growing and ageing population.
