@Orioles But what if we actually wanted to WATCH the game? It’s crazy how many streaming services fans must buy (or temporarily sign up for) just to watch pro sports these days. It’s not a good way to build lifelong fan support.

@Andrew_FBB What type of league are you adding Caissie? I’m interested in 10 team pts league. But it’s not clear he’s going to be more than a strong-side platoon. I’d have to drop Caglianone or Sheehan. Are you holding Cags for now?

@Orioles I like them. But why is the jersey $30 more at the team store than online? Can the Birdland Membership discount be used online? If not, this really reduces the value of Birdland Membership.

@PaulValleIII The jury is still out on Alby. He could be good. But I believed they needed a veteran manager to hold these guys accountable for their lack of focus. The mistakes they have made over the past couple seasons are exhausting.

A tough moment there. The White Sox score a run after a walk to load the bases in the fifth because Kyle Bradish doesn't cleanly catch Adley Rutschman's toss back. A double error on the pitcher. One for the missed catch to allow a run to score. Another on throw to the backstop.

@PigTownSports Fans and media need to be realistic about Holliday. This is the type of injury that will likely impact him all season, especially his power. He’ll play. But he won’t be the same hitter for a while.

@jcalvinmeyer You’re correct about OF defense without Cowser and the criticism of Cowser as a hitter is warranted. Bottom line: Orioles are likely in a transition phase in CF (one of the most important positions on the field). It’s not ideal timing for a team trying to compete right now.

The discourse about this player continues to confuse me. Colton Cowser had a great first week. He went 4-for-12 with as many walks (2) and sacrifices (2) as strikeouts (2), while accounting for nearly 30% of the team’s runs. He then had a terrible second week, going 0-for-10 with five strikeouts and a lot of whiffs against changeups. Yet these people conveniently ignore the former and only focus on the latter. This is not meant to dismiss Cowser’s flaws and struggles since mid-July, but I think we need a bigger 2026 sample size than 27 plate appearances. Also, you think the outfield defense is bad now? Option Cowser to Triple-A, and it gets way worse.
Jose Alvarez@alwaysplaying18

@editti22 @jcalvinmeyer I better not see Cowser on the big league squad once Holliday comes back, he’s riding the coattails of a fun 2024 campaign

@PhillyBadTakes @afkostka I get all that. I still don’t get this decision. He’s an established MLB pitcher. Orioles don’t seem eager to get him back at all. They’ve had multiple opportunities to do so.

Cringe. Sports betting is a crisis worth documenting and investigating, but I don’t think this guy has a clue what he’s talking about and this whole story — from getting $10k from The Atlantic, to “hiding in his pantry” — has felt very performative.
CBS Mornings@CBSMornings

“It only took a few weeks before I was hiding in the kitchen pantry to put my bets in, so my kids didn’t see how much I was gambling”: @TheAtlantic gave @mckaycoppins $10,000 as part of his investigation into online sports gambling — and he came out with far less money and some insight into how gamblers get hooked on apps like FanDuel and DraftKings.

@KimSchuss Yep. And I love that Alby is saying the quiet part out loud. I hope media follow up with questions to Elias about this statement. Defense has basically been ignored by this organization for years.

To hear a new manager say, for a team that was supposed to be competitive for years, with huge expectations surrounding a talented young core, that “defense hasn’t really been in the forefront here for a long time”, is infuriating as a fan.
Andy Kostka@afkostka

Craig Albernaz on defense:“Defense hasn’t really been in the forefront here for a long time, and that’s something we’re instilling. Like, defense matters. It’s going to messy. We’ve shown flashes of playing great defense, and we’ve also shown flashes of not playing great defense"

@PigTownSports At least Alby is honest about how defense has never truly mattered within this organization in recent years. Now why is that? I’d love to see media ask Elias about this quote. The organization hasn’t emphasized the value of defense under Elias. x.com/afkostka/statu…

@PigTownSports Not sure your point. MLB is definitely hard and a grind. My point: O’s have some of the same issues (fundamental mistakes + scoring and pitching challenges) as we saw last season. I don’t understand why some thought they would quickly bounce back with this roster. Long season.

@afkostka Massive base-running mistake by O’Neill cost the Orioles a crucial run. This team is so predictable at how poorly they do the little things. Run it out even if you think it’s headed foul.

Tyler O'Neill thought this ball would be foul. He took a few steps toward first and even turned back to the plate before running. Wind may have pushed it back fair, but if O'Neill had gotten to second there, he would've scored when Ryan Mountcastle singled

Austin Hays hurt himself chasing a bloop single down the line. Hays pulled up limping after running, and that allowed Adley Rutschman to score all the way from first to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Very close to the line, but it's an RBI single for O'Neill

Tough scene for a former Oriole. White Sox LF Austin Hays pulled up favoring his right leg trying to track down a flyball by Tyler O'Neill. He immediately comes out of the game. Ball landed just inside the line and it goes down as an RBI single for O'Neill.

@PigTownSports Right, they knew before his Friday start that Eflin was hurt. They could have adjusted his schedule to pitch a little later and serve as an injury replacement for either 1 of the 2 IL moves. Very odd to me Kremer is not with Orioles yet.
