@BCB_Sara So instead of making the company they work for/own better they decide to let money just sit in the company bank account for when they could spend it? If I know one thing about businesses if spending money will make money, they will. Also didn’t respond to bidding war.

@JonathanJ51318 They are pocketing ~ $190 million in revenue sharing plus whatever they actually make and would rather have that $$$ in the bank w/ cheaper players than pay top tier talent. It has nothing to do with what they CAN afford and everything to do with what they are WILLING to spend.

To be clear: The Tigers can absolutely afford to pay Tarik Skubal what he is worth. They are CHOOSING to trade him for prospect value rather than pay him.

@BCB_Sara Why would every single team other than the 5-10 big market clubs that are involved on free agents not sign him because they “don’t want to.” I just don’t buy that convenient excuse. Also when it comes to bidding wars over free agents how in the world will they compete

@JonathanJ51318 Well, in the 10 years I've been writing about baseball I've looked at a lot of numbers regarding contracts, the amount of money teams have, revenue sharing and more. Short version EVERY team in MLB can afford to pay Tarik Skubal what he's worth, a bunch of them choose not to.

Salary Cap Leagues NFL - 12 Teams have never won a Championship. NBA - 10 Teams have never won a Championship. NHL - 10 Teams have never won a Championship. No Salary Cap MLB - 5 Teams have never won a Championship.

I am not willing to listen to jack shit from Yankees and Dodgers fans on this salary cap debate. You guys can sit this one out for a change.

I hate the word parity. I just want small markets to be able to pay for a big free agent if they want to. But as the game stands right now, they can’t.

Yeah it's obvious, the MLBPA simply does not want a cap. They realize what it ultimately is, wage suppression. Before I turn into Karl Marx, I will just do the sports take on this: There is no real evidence to salary caps improving league parity.

@PourMeSomeBrown @skraxxy When these enthusiasts say parity all they mean is the same team isn’t winning every single year. So like there could be parity but only in top 10 of spending teams if that makes sense. What I mean is I want small markets to be able to win also

@skraxxy @RetroGamerDad17 Also in NFL revenue is nationalized so you can do as you please. It’s all up to how the org wants to run. Not many constraints as compared to baseball budgets

@RetroGamerDad17 @JonathanJ51318 Well, the MLB is *actually* that way because most owners field noncompetitive teams. The reason why the NFL is actually that way is... because money actually doesn't matter there. Not much correlation between payroll and winning.
