In the 1970s, Canadian scientists bred a cultivar with the erucic acid stripped out and rebranded it "canola," short for Canadian Oil Low Acid. Fifty years later it is in everything you eat, marketed as heart-healthy, and the British population has the worst cardiovascular outcomes in a generation. The rebrand worked.
