The fun, low/mid-budget special effects spectacle horror film is my absolute favorite kind of movie. It's why I wanted to get into filmmaking and I'm bummed every day they aren't really made anymore.

Let me explain exactly why every new subdivision in America looks like the top photo, because the math is wild. A mature tree increases a home's value by 7 to 19 percent. The disrespect that the industry has traditionally shown towards the genre is one of the reasons mainstream horror movies are still allowed to be relatively experimental and modestly-budgeted. Horror is a perpetual underdog, and thats what keeps its soul intact.
