There’s a misconception that the notwithstanding clause allows the government to put reasonable limits on freedoms. Let’s be clear: the constitution, by default, allows reasonable limits. The notwithstanding clause, by definition, allows gov’t to impose *unreasonable* limits. Wrote about this a month ago, in a different context. On the same day @ABDanielleSmith announces our new “Strong and Free” license plate, her government also announces her unconstitutional attack on trans rights and freedoms for Albertans. Strong and free, but not for thee.

As has been said by many people smarter than I, the constitution already allows for reasonable limits. The notwithstanding clause (that @ABDanielleSmith just used AGAIN to attack Albertan’s rights) is there to impose UNREASONABLE limits. And Albertans shouldn’t stand for it.

Yesterday, an 18 month old was killed in Ontario when a man drove into their daycare. This death has far more impact on Canadians' security than Charlie Kirk's and yet, our leaders are clamouring to suck up to Trump.

Sorry, but the abuse of foreign workers and the suppression of domestic wages isn't permissible so your local Tim Horton's can stay open. If a business can't afford labour, it can't afford to operate. Welcome to the free market.

The idea that Bonnie represents Battle River Crowfoot more than Pierre because she lives there completely sidesteps the fact that she has the political views of someone in downtown Toronto, which is completely unlike the vast majority of her neighbours. This is a completely Astroturf independent campaign that the media has been propping up because it would been too obvious for them to promote the Liberal Party candidate against Pierre.

Wherever you are, you can’t wait. Find a progressive candidate, or become one yourself, and show that we can be better. I hope we can.

A world where voters decided that her rights, and her future, don’t matter. I guess we have 18 years to move past conservative extremism, in every jurisdiction and at all levels of government, so that she can cast her first vote in a better world than we have today.

I’m sad that when my daughter is born in a few weeks, she’ll likely be born into a world where our neighbours chose Donald Trump. She’ll be born into a world where the US decided that decency, human rights, and evidence based decisions are 2nd to extremism and hate.
