The terrorist attack on the American Center, Kolkata, on 22nd January 2002 remains a solemn reminder of the supreme sacrifice made by brave Kolkata Police personnel in the line of duty. Today, a special commemoration ceremony was held at the US Consulate General Kolkata to honour the memory of the fallen heroes. The event was graced by Shri Dilip Ghosh, Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development, Panchayats & Animal Resources Development, Government of West Bengal, dignitaries of the US Consulate General Kolkata, and officers of Kolkata Police. A commemorative rally was also organised, with Kolkata Police personnel participating to pay tribute to their martyred colleagues and reaffirm their commitment to the values they upheld. On 08.12.2018, Md. Ishamul Haque @ Chunna was brutally attacked and killed at Simpukur Lane under Rajabagan Police Station following a verbal altercation. During the assault, Md. Basir, who courageously intervened to save the deceased, was also grievously injured. The accused, Md. Kalam, was swiftly apprehended. A meticulous investigation led by Inspector Subrata Sarkar ensured that the facts were brought before the Court and that justice was pursued with determination and diligence. Upon conclusion of the trial, the Hon’ble Court of the Learned Additional District & Sessions Judge, Alipore, found Md. Kalam guilty of murder and attempt to murder. He has been sentenced to: • Imprisonment for Life under Section 302 IPC for the murder of Md. Ishamul Haque @ Chunna. • 10 years' Rigorous Imprisonment under Section 307 IPC for the attempted murder of Md. Basir. A Voluntary Blood Donation Camp under the “UTSARGA” initiative was organized today by Hare Street Police Station and South East Traffic Guard. Braving the Heat! Under the blazing summer sun, while the city moves on, Kolkata Traffic Police personnel continue to stand steadfast at crossings and busy intersections, tirelessly performing their duties to keep citizens safe and traffic flowing smoothly. In a heartfelt gesture of care and solidarity, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, Shri Ajay Nand, IPS, along with other senior officers, today distributed ORS, water bottles, umbrellas, and sunglasses to traffic personnel on duty across the city. Acting on specific information, Kolkata Police arrested Satyabrata Basu Roy (28), resident of Niranjan Pally, Kolkata, under the jurisdiction of Bansdroni Police Station. During the operation, two improvised country-made semi-automatic firearms along with four live cartridges were recovered and seized from his exclusive possession. In this connection a specific case has been registered under Arms Act at Bansdroni PS. Further investigation is being carried on.

Today, while on duty at the Brigade Ground during the swearing-in ceremony, Shri Saikat Ghosh, IPS, DC SED, noticed a visibly distressed young boy, dressed in an orange t-shirt wandering helplessly through the crowd after getting separated from his father. Yesterday evening, a law and order problem arose in parts of Topsia and Tiljala under the South-East Division, during which certain miscreants vandalised public property etc. Prompt and effective intervention by the local police brought the situation under control immediately. Strict legal action has been initiated in connection with the incident. Two cases have been registered at Tiljala and Topsia Police Stations under relevant provisions of the BNS, PDPP Act, and WBMPO Act. So far, 40 accused persons have been arrested. The situation is fully under control and adequate police deployment remains in place in the affected areas. Citizens are advised not to believe or circulate fake news, rumours, or inflammatory content on social media. Strict legal action will be taken against rumour mongers and anyone attempting to disturb public peace and harmony.

🚨 Illegal Arms Seizure by STF, Kolkata Police 🚨 On the afternoon of 27.04.2026, acting on specific intelligence, a team of STF, Kolkata Police detained Shamim Alam (40) in the Chitpur PS area (in front of 26/1, B.T. Road). During the search, the following items were recovered from his possession: 🔹 03 single-shot firearms 🔹 01 pistol (7 mm) 🔹 04 empty magazines 🔹 14 rounds of 8 mm cartridges 🔹 100 rounds of 7 mm cartridges The accused failed to provide any satisfactory explanation regarding the possession of these arms and ammunition. 🔍 Seizure process is underway. 📄 A specific case is being initiated at STF Police Station. ⚖️ The accused will be produced before the court tomorrow.
