Here’s a secret that every genuinely original thinker knows: there are no original ideas. there are only original combinations. Every “breakthrough” is two existing ideas from different domains meeting for the first time inside someone’s head.
The person who reads only within their field will only ever have ideas that their field has already had.
This is why the most interesting people are almost always polymaths.
Go wider. Read the thing that has nothing to do with your work. Talk to the person who has nothing in common with you. Visit the place that makes no sense on your itinerary. The irrelevant input is the one that will combine with everything else and produce something nobody’s ever seen.

Few simple ways to manage up (meeting edition)
- Go into your meetings with an agenda.
- Create a fancy deck of items to discuss.
- Go with a journal and pen.
- Be seen to take notes (signals you take their thoughts seriously)
- Be the one recapping the action points and selling clarity at the end of the conversation.
- Turn on your camera (build trust)
- Say your thoughts (else, why bother attending?)
- Last one from me - Be the supportive team member who is usually positive about new ideas.

High-agency people seem to have this weird immunity to embarrassment.
Getting rejected? Not embarrassing, that’s just data collection.
Looking naive? Not embarrassing, that’s just information asymmetry you’re fixing.
Breaking minor social rules? Not embarrassing, most rules are just Schelling points anyway.
What would be embarrassing to them is not trying. That’s the thing they can’t live with.
