A special thanks to Board Chair, Doug Brodman and his wife, Terry, for hosting their fifth fundraiser in Naples, Florida. Since its inception, this event has raised more than $300,000 to support young melanoma investigators—fueling breakthroughs from the discovery of a promising immune cell linked to improved patient outcomes to the development of a clinical trial enhancing TIL therapy for advanced melanoma.
Florian Karreth, PhD (@KarrethLab), MRF research grant recipient and researcher from @MoffittNews shared updates on the impact of basic science research and the profound impact that early funding of innovative science has on long term outcomes for melanoma patients.

We also detected disseminated UM cells in the liver, making this a great model to study UM dormancy and metastasis

Using this model, we identified two main UM cell states, melanocytic and neural crest-like, that may be associated with growth vs metastasis.

Very excited that our new mouse model of #uveal #melanoma is now published at @CR_AACR. This model recapitulates the genetics and biology of human UM progression and will be a powerful tool for preclinical UM research.

Live from #AACR25: Kaizhen Wang (@Kaizhen20) from the @KarrethLab discusses how MYBL2 drives melanoma through a surprising mechanism, non-canonical RNA binding. This newly uncovered function reveals how MYBL2 reshapes gene regulation and promotes tumor growth, offering fresh insight into melanoma progression.
Key insights:
•MYBL2 is pregulated and plays an oncogenic role in melanoma while represents a melanoma vulnerability
• MYBL2 binds RNA in melanoma but not in melanocytes, and it promotes melanoma growth through its RNA binding function.
• RNA binding of MYBL2 enhances its association with chromatin and drives a transcriptional program which associated with poor patient outcomes.
• Distinct melanoma RNA background is the main determinant to enable MYBL2 RNA binding in melanoma cells
