Mosquitoes love to lay their eggs on green standing water. If you have a water fountain, swimming pool or pond, they can become a mosquito problem quickly if they are neglected. Please keep water fountains and swimming pools chlorinated and place mosquito fish in ponds.

Just because a homeowner or renter ignores their green swimming pool, doesn't mean have to. Green pools are a major contributor to residential mosquito problems. If you have a neighbor with a green pool, you can call us at (661) 589-2744 or go to kernmosquito.com.

Rain is on the way next week. So, if you have containers like this toy truck outside in the weather, move them to an area where they can't catch rainwater and breed mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are still looking for stagnant water where they can lay their eggs. #mosquito #westnile

Now is the time to clean around your home and get rid of those unwanted items that can hold water. Useful tools like wheel barrows and buckets need to be stored out of the weather. Items that can collect rain water during winter months offer mosquitoes a place to lay their eggs.

Miscellaneous containers left in areas like flower beds can create hidden mosquito breeding grounds, especially if they are being filled by automatic sprinklers. Inspect your yards weekly for items that can hold water and make sure they are not stored out in the open. #mosquito

Water saucers under plants can breed mosquitoes if the water is standing more that 5 days. Empty the saucers once a week or fill the saucers with sand. It only takes a small amount of water to breed those little "ankle biters." Remember, No Water means No Mosquitoes! #mosquito

Please do not ignore your swimming pool this fall/winter and let the water turn green. Maintaining the chemicals in the water prevents mosquitoes from laying eggs and helps reduce mosquito numbers in our neighborhoods. #mosquito #Westnile #kernmosquito #greenpool

The Kern River is delivering huge amounts of water to the valley and creating thousands of acres of standing water in recharge basins. Mosquito numbers are high and West Nile virus will be active very soon. Prevent the bites this year by using an EPA-registered insect repellent.
