They second guess themselves and call it reaction time. I call it changing the call based on what happened AFTER the takedown occurred. It's one of the biggest issues in folkstyle wrestling. If refs closed their eyes as soon as they made the call, they are right 9 times out of 10. But the "after action" influences them.

@ChrisBono I appreciate the rules committee and the work you do - (I tried multiple times to join it!) But I don’t know a single coach, wrestler, or official that likes the new headgear staying on until you leave the mat rule

Coach- As a member of the rules committee - it was 100 percent warranted to put the head gear toss/ slide / drop / throw into the rule book … not hard to FOLLOW RULES . Keep it on. ( BTW - we fought to get rid of them / did not happen.
