If your takeaway from today’s global IT outage is that CrowdStrike Falcon is a bad product, you’re wrong. CrowdStrike has done an incredible job managing the problem. It’s easy to judge based on one failure, but Falcon is still one of the best EDR products out there.

On Friday, AT&T announced a major data breach that included data from nearly all of their customers. Fortunately, the data didn’t include any personally identifiable information, but it did expose phone numbers and call/text records for cell phones and landlines.

I find most charts and graphs on "dashboard" style websites useless clutter. Most only have one or two data points. Less is often better...

Limit third party services = limit security risk Build custom services = increase security risk Loose - loose situation. Unless you have a large software development and security team, probably best to use purpose-built and proven third party services despite the risks.

Do you rely on internal DNS or memorize your infrastructure IP addresses?

While I try to avoid seeing other people's passwords, as an IT professional sometimes it is inevitable. I am scared 99% of the time. The "most common" password lists aren't wrong.

When talking to potential consulting clients, I used to try to justify my rate as soon as I mentioned it. You don’t need to justify yourself. Know what you’re worth and stick to it. If your existing clients are willing to pay it, that’s enough [unspoken] justification.
