Pedro Martinez +115 2U (retirement book preferred)
Carreño Busta’s fitness/stamina is always gonna be the question at this stage of his career and we’ve some evidence of him perhaps starting to (understandably) fade coming off a title last week. First round Guilin blew four set points on serve to take the first as a +600 underdog, and then today he was down a set and 2-0 to Quilez, who was a +550 dog. Quilez also led by a break in the third set, but after nearly 2 and a half hours PCB managed to escape as a -900 favorite.
Carreño Busta will be 35 years old in July, will always have fitness concerns at this point, is coming off a title last week, and is now struggling to win matches as a massive favorite. Shouldn’t be that hard to put two and two together— this is clearly a player with questionable physicality starting to fade. He’s been able to escape so far because he’s played such far inferior opponents and they’ve choked badly, but now he faces a massive step up in competition in Martinez with even more cumulative fatigue having built up. And unlike Gulin/Quilez who were likely a bit overwhelmed by the moment and couldn’t close things out, but a former Top 40 player and multiple time Challenger title / one time main tour winner in Martinez certainly won’t be feeling any nerves to let PCB off the hook.
I’m really not sure why Martinez has become the underdog now— if this isn’t a head fake then I’m missing something. Will probably be adding a little to Martinez live if he loses a first set that isn’t super quick and easy— just can’t see PCB holding up in three unless at least one of the sets is a blowout. That is, if I’m awake (probably won’t be)
If Carreño Busta does win this match, then I’ll probably be fading him in the semis, and then in the final again if necessary. Will gladly lose a decent chunk of change if he goes back to back after what he seen from him so far this week. He’s also signed up to play Marrakech qualifying, which starts on Sunday, so he could be looking ahead to that
Griekspoor the gutless Dutch has thrown in the towel, down 2-0 in the second like a whimpering chav who can't swing a racket. Not even pretending anymore, the lazy cunt. While that slick coconut crusher Aliassime banana muncher swaggers like king of the jungle.
