The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has announced that crude oil from the South Lokichar Basin in Turkana is projected to begin commercial flow before the end of 2026. This development follows the approval of a revised Field Development Plan by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority and its subsequent submission to Parliament for ratification. The project gained momentum after Gulf Energy E&P BV acquired the interests of Tullow Oil, introducing the financial capability and structured phased development model required to unlock the multi-billion dollar initiative.

A SWOT analysis would probably flag the biggest threat immediately cos once public trust is lost, no amount of revenue from eCitizen data can buy it back.

You have to wonder whether a proper SWOT analysis is ever done before some of these decisions. On paper, monetising anonymised eCitizen data may look like a new revenue stream, but the weaknesses and threats seem obvious. Public trust, privacy concerns, data security risks and the government's credibility in handling sensitive information. When citizens already have concerns about transparency and accountability, selling data, even if anonymised, risks creating more suspicion than value.
