Mmm. I come from a deprived inner London borough and can honestly say I've NEVER 'been there' when a shoplifter has taken a load of alcohol out of the shop.
I have spent most of my adult life however, watching the richest shaft the poorest in society.
This is more distraction.

Covid was the biggest transfer of power from bosses to workers in 75 years and billionaires were so angry at this they demanded governments inflict 'pain' on the economy to punish 'arrogant' workers and it's amazing how so little analysis of the last 5 years includes this

Not just the highly educated. Welsh miners formed study groups to read Austen and Dickens. Scottish shepherds built lending libraries. Watchmakers & cabinetmakers taught themselves Greek and Latin. The loss of working-class autodidact culture is one of history's great tragedies.

@VenturaWanderer @Cluffalo Which was the state of affairs a few decades ago vis a vis some humans believing they can abuse others too ... so all they're doing is moving that desire to abuse to something else. The intent being the same is perturbing. 'Same as a stress ball' yeah, sure ...

I live in a Lib Dem seat in Woking. They gained it from the Tories in July. The media coverage for the Lib Dems though, who actually have 72 seats in Parliament compared to Reform who have 5 seats is actually disgusting.
