The writing in 5, 6 and 7 are all not that great. 6 isn't exactly a great Scream movie it's my favourite in the franchise because I loved Ghostface in it and I love Sam and Tara but it isn't the best Scream movie, fun slasher movie though. As many issues I have with 7 it feels more like a Scream movie than 5 and 6 did and I absolutely love 5 and 6 and always have. 7 is definitely a better Scream movie than 5 and 6. All Scream entries are good there is no bad entry in the franchise.
