Honestly, not a fan. My favorite thing about the NFL is competitive balance. It’s one of the few sports where a last place team can win a SB next szn. All this rule change would do is make a team even less desirable for a HC/GM because they have no draft picks for next 5 years
Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter

More about the Cleveland Browns proposing a rule change that would allow NFL teams to trade draft picks five years into the future instead of three. espn.com/nfl/story/_/id…

@BoltUpDFS That’s not how QB2 works. He runs scout team Off making the Def better. He provides inputs on what he sees on film to the QB/QB Coach/OC. He participates in preparing the QB1. That doesn’t mean he’s teaching like Chase Daniel did. That means he’s part of the weekly discussion

@LACMasterBolt Herbert’s preparation regime came from that Lombardi/Brees tree so I doubt Trey Lance moves the needle enough to warrant paying that much. Also if we still are in playoff contention with Herbert out I’d say that’s a huge testament to Mike McDaniels game planning.

@bucks3317 When he was at Houston/lighter, he was able to get to the QB a bit more efficiently (6 sacks in 1 season). His Oregon season, he added 25 pressures but also gained like 30 pounds. I’d imagine they have him shave some weight from 340 to 325 and see what happens

Wanting to play Jamaree Caldwell more at 3T is interesting and feels like a cop out by this regime. He was one of my guys from last draft but asking him to give you legitimate pass rush chops seems like a stretch. Would love to be wrong but this just feels like cutting corners.

@ChargersMemes And in terms of bidding up to win, that’s a terrible strategy. All players have a value and worth. Don’t overpay for the sake of plugging one hole when there are other holes on the roster. If you think Zion is worth $15M and another team is willing to pay $18, let him walk.

@ChargersMemes Rams don’t shop at the top of the free agency market either. Most of their big name players are acquired via trade. They draft exceptionally well when they do pick also.

If your goal as a GM isn’t to put forth the best team possible, then what exactly is the goal?

@MJ54 Honestly, I love everything about Ravens team building. Establish a run game/smothering D. Don’t shop at the top of the free agency market. Sign prove it deals for under performing/ devalued players w/ change of scenery need. Reward your own. Draft for value. Draft-develop-extend

No worries, I get what you're saying now! Makes sense. Just want us to be chasing a higher bar than what the Ravens have done since Flacco and 2013. Also while you were responding it literally dawned on me that the Seahawks just won a ring with a Baltimore system, so that basically shut down any arguments I had 😅 Thanks for the explanation!

Confused why Hortiz wants the Chargers to the Ravens West. What exactly have the Baltimore Ravens accomplished recently? A SB win in 2013 while he was in Scouting? They fall short every single year, just like the Chargers. All hype, no results. Maybe let's try and poach from someone else?

@MJ54 Because Jim and John Harbaugh traded players and coaches seamlessly, it made sense that the Chargers poached Ravens players. They were schematic fits and maximized their skill sets on our team. Oweh made his money on our team. Unc. JK played well and we never got a healthy Gus

@MJ54 My point is don’t chase players coaches from the best teams. Chase the best players and best coaches regardless of teams. Focus more on schematic fits, contract value matches production. The best team is a complete team with players whose skill sets are maximized by your scheme

@MJ54 Sorry im trying to write my thoughts and take care of a 10 month old. Patriots josh McDaniels. Matt Patricia, Bill O’Brian, Brain Flores, Brain Daboll and players Rex Burkhead, Dion Lewis, Cam Fleming, Shaq Mason, Derek Rivers, Malcolm Butler.

@MJ54 Chasing players and coaches from superbowl winners isn’t the only way to poach championship caliber support. The Ravens are just as good a place to poach as the eagles/chiefs/NE.

@MJ54 KC coaches: Matt Nagy, Todd Bowls, Steve Spagnuolo, Pat Shurmur, David Culley, Brad Childress, Ron Rivera. KC Players: Mecole Hardman, Byron Pringle, Chavarius Ward, Daniel Sorenson, Anthony Hitchens There are some good players and coaches, but…

@katzkd1 @adysimons But he’s worked with RG3, Matt Ryan, Jimmy Garappolo, Manziel, and Tua. This is his first with a big arm QB. He doesn’t draft players to fit his scheme. He molds his scheme to the strengths of his playmakers. To do that, he has to make the OL work to fit QB strengths

@katzkd1 @adysimons In pass pro, there’s more fluidity. McDaniels doesn’t have to have any specific WR archetype. He’s had speed (Tyreek/Waddle), Big bodies (Julio/Sanu), Deebo/Aiyuk, Kittle. Most people point to the Dolphins passing game with Tua quick drop and out within 2.5 seconds for RAC opps

Some names to look out for in the hope we don't have to use Trevor Penning or Cole Strange. Scheme fits based on athletic profile, movement ability, and play style. PFF grades (because they're mostly bullshit) aren't a factor.

@SunnySideUp211 @ppenguin95 Look at RBs for Texans and Chargers running ML and LG to see average yards per carry on either gap. That’ll give you run grade success. Then total pressures. Zion is better than Ed Ingram and is an ascending player. Not pro bowl quite yet, but you see tools and project that fwd

I know we harp a lot on PFF but what else do we have to compare apples to apples? If Ingram just got 3 years at $37.5M ( 12.6 AAV ) ain’t no way in hell Zion should get $18-20M?

@alexinsdorf99 If QJ walks in FA, does he sign a contract that nets a comp pick at about a 4-5th? Bc Id rather retain his services for a year and get that pick anyways down the line. Chargers should re-sign Ladd, Alt, Henley, Tuli, Still. I’d imagine more retention leading to comp picks
