Finally discharged with a knee brace, crutches, anti-inflammatory shot, and a recommendation for an MRI next. One good thing that came out of me being in the hospital: more people were provided with masks. Thank you for all the thoughtful messages. 🙏

I’m at the hospital after the @LAPublicHealth Commission as I was followed and harassed for about half a mile by two individuals who attended public comment and waited for me to go downstairs. As they harassed me, I got hit by a car, driver fled. Getting checked out now.

We’d LOVE to work with @LASchools and @UTLAnow on HEPA) filters for every room. (Our principal was in the classroom today bc we don’t have enough subs, my kid is sick for the 2nd time this year. The absences are real right now).

Exactly the same experience at my kids (private) school. Effective filtration and ventilation stops outbreaks. Right now only the rich who send their kids to private schools get to enjoy this perk, but this is cheap and easy to implement everywhere. There's no excuse.

@martacostello @LAUSDSup I just want HEPAs promoted by the District to teachers and principals as part of the Excellent Attendance Initiative. Because they ARE! They’re an amazing and simple tool for health and learning! Cc @UTLAnow

@LAParents1 @LAUSDSup My kids tell me teachers don’t even turn on the HEPAs they have! 😩 I have a high risk student. Many more people are actually at a high risk for LC or other bad outcomes than will admit it, even to themselves

We’re in a wave. @LAUSDSup we have no reporting, no dashboard, no protection, and *promotion* of sick kids in class. How is this ACTUALLY working out for attendance, learning, test scores, & budgets? We could minimally promote masks, tests & get HEPAs in all rooms

It's interesting that groups that have gone on about the impacts of school closure say very little about the v. high rates of persistent absences (>10% of school missed) among children- mostly due to illness. 25% of children persistently absent in autumn 2022 in England

Over the last few weeks in NY: ➡️Several hospitals reinstated their mask mandate ➡️NYC added free KN95 masks to public health vending machines ➡️NYC council members supported a new free mask bill ➡️NYS announced a free N95/KN95 mask & test program for schools Organizing works!
