ENORMOUS DISRUPTION lies ahead
Irish Govt is currently debating between a 15c or 25c reduction on excise fuel tax.
This feels a lot like like picking up pennies in front of a steam roller. Their entire budget could go up in the air. Let me explain:
During Covid:
• Oil demand fell by ~20million barrels/day
• Gas demand dipped only slightly by 3%
Today:
• Oil supply at risk of ~20million barrels/day
• LNG disruption ~20%
This means flights and diesel will get so expensive that demand is forced down mimicking COVID-era restrictions but without the mandatory lockdowns.
The true shock won't hit for another few weeks as reserves are released and last remaining supply ships reach their ports.
Maybe something will happen to prove this wrong...
but right now its very difficult to see how.

Germany's @AfD have had another big result in state elections - this time Rheinland-Pfalz. They increased their share of the vote by 11% on 2021. This (20%) is the AfD's best performance in state elections in Western Germany.
The CDU beat the SPD - a state the SPD have won since 1991 - 35 years! This historic slump for the SPD comes after they had their worst result in state elections since WWII recently in Baden-Württemberg where they achieved 5.5% of the vote.
Germans are rejecting the SPD.
However, despite the clear mandate for a CDU-AfD coalition, Merz continues his firewall policy and will go into coalition with the SPD. So instead of getting conservative reform which the people of Rheinland-Pfalz (and Baden-Württemberg) have demanded, they will get another globalist-left coalition.
The CDU continue to be the greatest threat to democracy in German politics.

When I was at university a Nigerian on my engineering course told a joke about corruption I adapt it for the present: So a Pakistani engineer, a Nigerian engineer and an English lawyer go to visit each others country after graduating. Nigerian visits the Pakistani guy. Says "You did well for your self, expensive car, huge house you were a bit of a waster at university, how come you did so well for yourself?" Pakistani guy rubs his hands together and says "I went into the Civil Service, see that bridge over there... 20%" Few years later Pakistani guy visits the Nigerian guy. Says "Wow you are doing even better than me you have a fleet of cars, a mansion, security your own jet, your were an even bigger waster than me how come you are so rich" Nigerian guy rubs his hands together and says "I went into politics. See that bridge over there... 40%" Another year passes they both go back to England and visit the English guy. He has a lovely property and expensive car as well. They both say "You were the biggest slacker of all of us how come your are so rich?" English guy points and says "I stayed in Law, See that bridge over there?" Nigerian guy says "No"
