“You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basket case, a princess, and a criminal.”
~The Breakfast Club.
I know we’re supposed to make our decisions based on the needs of the students... but we can never discount the needs of the adults in the school. They’re the ones taking care of the kids. And they want what’s best for students as well.
Today I asked a student why she loved a certain teacher.
“She always interacts with us. She takes the time to figure out what we’re thinking as teenagers...and how we learn.”
I love listening to what students say about the teachers they admire. And I’m seldom surprised.
“You know, I think everybody longs to be loved, and longs to know that he or she is lovable. And, consequently, the greatest thing that we can do is to help somebody know that they’re loved and capable of loving.”
Mr. Rogers 2003. Seems even more relevant today.
Principals like for teachers to provide engaging lessons.
Well teachers & students like for their principal to provide engaging LEADERSHIP. It means walking around, having lots of conversations, being a cheerleader, working collaboratively, & caring about everyone in the school.
