The death of a man while in the custody of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety is under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. MSHP Sgt. Brad Germann identified the man as 44-year-old Lloyd Gilmore. Germann said investigators are waiting on the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of Gilmore’s death. According to the MSHP’s Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) preliminary investigation, Gilmore reportedly confronted and assaulted officers at the Sikeston Department of Public Safety headquarters on Wednesday, June 10. Gilmore was then handcuffed and taken into custody. MSHP reports that Gilmore continued to be combative and assaulted officers. He was taken to a holding facility at Sikeston DPS. Investigators said Gilmore remained combative at the holding facility and DPS officers requested emergency medical services to respond and check the well-being of Gilmore. While being treated by EMS workers, MSHP said Gilmore reportedly became unresponsive and was taken to an area hospital and died. Scott County Coroner Cody Caudle says his office is investigating the cause and manner of Gilmore’s death. Caudle says Mr. Gilmore’s remains are in the care of the Scott County Coroner’s Office, “pending a complete medicolegal death investigation.” He said a forensic autopsy is scheduled for Monday, June 15. Caudle said no individual, including anyone from the coroner’s office, is allowed to view or access Gilmore until the examination. He maintains no cause or manner of death has been determined yet. ***There are reports that the police explanation of what really happened is a LIE!!! There is an eye witness who saw this man being stomped in the head while handcuffed and hogtied, this is the same man who has a lawsuit on the police department for police brutality, they talking about he was fighting, he had a broke wrist and thumb from the last encounter with them so resisting is a LIE‼️
