Day 5: We visited the trenches at Sanctuary Wood near Ypres. Pupils were shocked by the rawness of the conditions that soldiers had to endure. Summer R (S6) read Dulce et Decorum est at Vancouver corner where the first gas attack took place in the war. @LarbertHigh @S3LHSYT

Day 5: Final visit was to the Last Post remembrance service at the Menin Gate. Over 500 members of the public attended. The service was incredibly moving & Rory M and Isabella M (S3) laid a wreath on behalf of @LarbertHigh . Dexter F did a fantastic job playing the bagpipes!

Day 1 of the S3 History WW1 Battlefields trip is truly underway! First stop is a visit to Notre Dame French National War cemetery. The group are in great spirits after the ferry ride from Dover across to Calais! 🇫🇷 @S3LHSYT @LarbertHigh
