🇨🇳✊️🇨🇺 China has sent enough rice to feed the entire country of Cuba for a month. 60,000 tons of rice is part of an emergency aid package to Cuba approved by President Xi Jinping in January 2026. The first shipment of 4,800 tons arrived in January, with the main delivery departing on March 20. For a country of 11 million people that consumes roughly 600,000 tons of rice a year, this single donation covers about one full month of national consumption. Cuba once produced over 524,000 tons of rice annually. By 2023, that number had collapsed to just 27,000 tons, a drop of more than 94 percent. Shortages of fertilizer, fuel, and modern equipment have gutted domestic farming. Today, Cuba imports most of its rice at a cost of over $300 million per year. China's aid package also includes $80 million in financial assistance for electrical equipment. Brazil has pledged 20,000 tons of food aid as well, and 33 countries sent humanitarian supplies last week.
