Teresa has suffered death threats and had a gun pulled out for her by foreign nationals and you did not even bother yourself with defending her??Now you are claiming March and March said they will be violent on the 30th? When did you ever hear us say anything about violence? Because it’s you as government that are the fearmongers? We have Marches EVERYDAY, what would stop us from being violent if that is our intention? We get that you are enjoying being in power but you must never think being in power makes one invisible and must ignore the cries of the very people that put him there! We have enjoyed a very good relationship with the PA so far and I’m not sure what is going on with you but whatever it is must not distort who we are as March and March and ride a wave of calling us and labelling us what we are not! If you fear violence so much then why do you no longer speak about the violence South Africans suffer at the hands of foreign nationals? You are nowhere to be found even to support the likes of Mazwi or children dying from Spaza shops poisoning or those who die at the hands of drugs? Or children who are trafficked or kidnapped? Why have you changed from the person who promised to fight for the people against foreign nationals?? Being in Parliament doesn’t mean you are there to just agree with everything the President says even if it goes against what you promised the people!!! Nonetheless we remain on cause to defend South Africa and South Africans who are suffering in their country due to the influx of millions of unknown, illegal and undocumented people who are in this country making us feel unsafe in our own country. WATCH] On behalf of the African National Congress, I want to state that we a country of over 60 million. There are many people who come to our country and many come to our country to contribute to the wealth of our country and its progress. Many contribute positively in our country. There are people in our country who have taken it upon themselves to do things which the vast majority do not condone and this must not paint South Africans as xenophobic. Indeed we do have a challenge of illegal immigration in South Africa and it’s not a problem unique to South Africa. There are many country’s affected by this. South Africa is a signatory of the Geneva Convention and we must deal with this challenge within the perimeters of the law. We can’t deal with it with hatred. That is why government has adopted a program of action to deal with this particular challenge which the President has made a public announcement. We have called for law enforcement and calmness and follow the government’s Action Plan on dealing with illegal immigration. We have made it very clear as the ANC, we cannot and should not be associated with anything that amounts to hate crimes. In this particular instance the majority of South Africans are people of Ubuntu and humanity. Because we too would not be free without the solidarity and assistance of country’s such as Mozambique in the fight against apartheid. Many people sacrificed such as Samora Machel the President of Mozambique and many combatants died here fighting against apartheid. #ANCinMozambique #ANCatWORK

Yesterday @DrTedros and I had a constructive and cordial teleconference to discuss his concerns around xenophobia in South Africa. On the specifics of Dr Tedros tweet: • We clarified that the tragic deaths of 5 Ethiopian nationals are linked to organised crime within the Ethiopian community in SA, rather than xenophobic violence • Regarding Mozambican nationals, we noted that reports of 5 deaths are inaccurate at unfortunately 2 have been confirmed, and South African Police is investigating these murders with the utmost seriousness. The South African government condemns the violent incidences with strongest terms. We made it clear that these incidents do not reflect the values or position of the South African Government and it’s people. Those responsible will face the full force of the law, as will anyone exploiting migration concerns to advance political, personal, or criminal agendas. We also acknowledged that irregular migration is a real challenge for SA one that must be managed humanely and within the framework of the law. The enforcement of the immigration law is for the mandated authorities not private individuals. The management of immigration challenges requires a continental response on the root cases and the push and pull factors.
