THE LAST 24 HOURS OF THE IRAN WAR CHANGED EVERYTHING. HERE IS THE TIMELINE.
This is not what you're being told.
24 hours ago, Hegseth stood in the White House Cabinet room.
He said: "Never in history has a country been defeated as Iran has. We wiped it off the face of the earth."
THAT SAME DAY:
Iran launched its 80th wave of missile strikes against Israel and US bases.
Iran's IRGC announced ALL American military bases in the Middle East have been "ELIMINATED" and they are hunting the remaining US troops.
Iran released video claiming they shot down a US F-18 fighter jet near Chabahar.
CENTCOM denied both claims. But released no footage.
Iran announced the Strait of Hormuz will never be the same.
20+ ships have ALREADY paid the "Tehran Toll Booth" for safe passage.
Iran's parliament is drafting a LAW to make the Hormuz toll system permanent.
Iran then threatened to block the Bab el-Mandeb Strait — the entrance to the Red Sea.
That's 12% of all global seaborne oil.
On top of the 20% that already flows through the Hormuz they now control.
Here's what nobody is telling you:
The US spent months bombing Iran.
Iran responded by becoming the landlord of the world's most important shipping lanes.
That's not a defeat. That's a business model.

@LiuFeng_Dao Where's the link to 20 ships already paying the toll?

@patapackala @doctorow It's in Cory's blog, and it's too long for my old skool tweet limit, but here it is:

@Sacha_Lord @RachelReevesMP 1650 over 3 years... 550 a year... about a tenner a week. Yeah, that'll fix things. This is ridiculous. Everyone is stressing over increases of thousands, sometimes tens of thousands a year, and we get a tenner a week back. Insane.
English

@RachelReevesMP What you have done to Hospitality is unforgivable. We’re seeing closures like never before, with 6 a day expected this year. You’ve cost over 120,000 jobs, mainly for young people.
English

British pubs are at the heart of our communities.
Today we’re backing them with a 15% cut to new business rates bills, a two-year freeze, and a new High Streets Strategy so retail, leisure and hospitality can thrive – restoring pride in every community.

Pubs in England & Wales are facing a massive hike in business rates in April 🍻 💸 📈
75%+ of venues are looking at increases in their rateable value, some by 500%+
the government's signalled a potential u-turn... but nothing's confirmed yet.
so i built ismypubfucked.com with official VOA data for 43,000 pubs, which looks at just how fucked they each are

@lpoolcouncil Did Joe Anderson's son get the contract?
English

@LiverpoolBrew @Hughsey1976 @spiritofshankly Just spoke to the ticket office , have to go on live chat to let them know and they put you on the duplicate list . They’ll then arrange a duplicate to be collected from Fulham’s ticket office.
English

@Hughsey1976 @spiritofshankly Soz don't understand. Collect from where? Can we get the dupes from the Anfield ticket office or are we picking them up at Fulham?
English

@spiritofshankly Been onto LFC today….lead booker must collect. No caveat whatsoever to transfer tickets
English

@badwool9 It's good in bursts. Get shit off your chest and get on with it. A few sessions here and there. Not a lifestyle choice, not part of a routine.
English

@JM4LISD @peterrhague This is exactly it. The banks are headquarterd in London, so that's where the banks report their earnings. Their earnings are made across the country, but this is where they're reported, paid out, and bonus applied. Also, GDP is a pathetic measure of success.
English

@peterrhague The Imperial City leeching off the rural latifundia is historically common.
English

To help Americans understand the UK situation:
In GDP/capita terms, London is comparable to New York. England outside of London is comparable to Puerto Rico (really). The entire country shares roughly the same minimum wage as California.
This is a result of policy. For decades successive governments have aggressively prioritised the capital over everywhere else in the country - in terms of infrastructure spending most notably, but also in industrial planning and monetary policy. Londoners see themselves as the nations economic engine, graciously giving charity to poor useless northerners - but this is not at all an accurate picture. England is intentionally kept down in order to maintain London's status as a world city during a period of decline.
You can see it in infrastructure - roads outside the capital are left to decay, trains and busses are infrequent and unreliable. The grooming gang scandal was ignored in part because it occurred in post industrial towns in Yorkshire and the West Midlands, places the government could not give less of a crap about.
A lot of the political turmoil of late can be understood as an English nationalism in reaction to this mistreatment, and the authoritarianism of the government as the metropole attempting to reassert control.
English

@ollieb997 @kwrmag @PED7 @henrywinter The point is it's a pretty stupid chant. Anyone going to the match has spent north of a hundred quid on transport and booze. It's punching down whoever sings it about anyone. Not just us scousers, anyone. We're privileged to even go to a game. Have a go at the team. Not the poor.
English

@kwrmag @PED7 @henrywinter Point is where was he for countless years when United did it? It’s only targeted at Arsenal who by all accounts have only done it the once… any reason to launch an attack
English

@TwoPoint0Filmz @emkenobi Fuck me man. Horrible. Take it easy on yourself and cuddle your siblings.
English

@emkenobi YUP. Btw My friends Scott, 11 And his dad Craig were murdered in a mass shooting with 5 other ppl 14 years ago . Scott was my bro and sis’s best friend and like another lil bro to me. I was 16. We continue to fail the memory of those who’ve died when we do nothing
English

Australia enacted gun control laws in 1996 after 35 people were killed in a shooting. It only took ONE shooting for politicians to protect their citizens and implement gun control. They immediately saw a sharp decline in homicide and suicide rates via guns. This is the first mass shooting Australia has had in decades.
Since 2014 almost SIX THOUSAND people have died from mass shootings in the US. Don’t you dare use this tragedy to try and insinuate gun control does not work. More guns is never the solution.
Don Keith@RealDonKeith
Australia took away its citizens’ guns, but 10 people at Bondi Beach are dead anyway because terrorists don’t care about gun laws. The only thing the Australian government did was make sure its unarmed, law-abiding, citizens are now sitting ducks, unable to defend themselves.

@SuperPrigo @jamesdacombe I've been to Austin and it's a great city, but not really comparable to London on most measures. I'm very pro America and have spent loads of time there, I'm just anti the ridiculous amount of shit being spewed about the UK on this website right now.
English

@LiverpoolBrew @jamesdacombe No I mean it is really localized. You would have to come here to understand. In any middle class suburb here that a young Briton that has the ability to move here legally would have 0 problems. London is denser and different. Life expectancy is also BS because you can eat healthy
English

We’ve recently opened an office in Austin Texas. From the data I’ve seen average salaries in Austin about 25-50% higher than London, rent is about 30% lower for the same type of apartment and taxes are 50% lower than the UK. Plus you can live within 20 mins of the city in a multiple bedroom house with a pool. Then for most people their landlord comes to them at the end of the year to reduce their rent as it keeps dropping year after year.
Turns out supply and demand is a thing and if you build a lot more housing rents drop. Who knew 🤔
David Lawrence@dc_lawrence
Both the US and UK have a housing crisis. But it is so, so much worse in Britain - and not just in London. Once you account for average incomes, the data is stark. (From @jburnmurdoch, as ever)
English

@SuperPrigo @jamesdacombe How is that murder rate being localised any different from any other city on Earth? We're sick of hearing how dangerous London is because the bellend who owns this site has a vendetta, when it is far safer than any American city. Also, your life expectancy is three years lower.
English

@LiverpoolBrew @jamesdacombe Tf? No you don’t go bankrupt. It’s a myth. 95% of people do have health insurance. And then if you’re a young professional capable to legally move to the US this is no problem. Also the murder rate is only in some areas that you can easily avoid. It’s a gang problem (85% of it)
