@London_Destruct

Love London + its olde architecture, conservation + preservation. London's history, buildings, art, nature, wildlife, traditions + nice cups of tea.

The White House today had a @Figure_robot explain to the world that it will soon be replacing teachers… And it will. It will also replace surgeons, lawyers, pilots, truck drivers, police officers, soldiers and basically every other job. And believe it or not…this is good.

HS2 is now expected to cost over £100 billion. That’s not just a big number, it’s your money. Break it down: £100,000,000,000 ÷ 28 million households = £3,570 per household. Push towards £110 billion and it’s closer to £4,000 each. For a railway most people will rarely use. At what point do we call this what it is, a generational misallocation of taxpayer capital?

Like California High-Speed Rail, the UK's HS2 project (intended to connect Birmingham and London) is struggling with delays and cost overruns. To save money, the Labour government is contemplating reducing the top speed from 224mph to 186mph. eandt.theiet.org/2026/03/24/hs2…

£180 million didn’t just disappear on the Stonehenge tunnel. It went on: • Endless environmental impact assessments • Years of legal battles and judicial reviews • Consultancy fees (lawyers, planners, heritage experts) • Design revisions to appease heritage bodies • Traffic modelling and economic forecasts • Public consultations that changed nothing No shovel in the ground. No infrastructure delivered. Just a taxpayer funded loop of bureaucracy.

Stonehenge tunnel: £180 million spent on planning. Not a metre built. Cancelled. Why has this not caused national outrage?

@BenGrahamUK The way that they churn up and wreck the environment to make way for this nonsense means that it will never be worth it.

HS2 is expected to complete around 2035. Primary benefit: 20 minutes saved between London and Birmingham. Using conservative figures it's going to roughly cost: • £10 million per day • £430'000 per hour The ultimate waste of taxpayer money, or worth it?

ELON MUSK: "In the future, the robots will make so many robots, that they will actually saturate all human needs, meaning you won't be able to even think of something to ask the robot for at a certain point, like there will be such an abundance of goods and services. There'll be more robots than people. I think everyone on earth is going to have one humanoid robot because you would want a robot to watch over your kids, take care of your pet, take care of elderly parents. I'm very optimistic about the future. I think we're headed for a future of amazing abundance, which is very cool. Definitely we are in the most interesting time in history."

3,000 BC: We built Stonehenge, dragging the stones 150 miles without a single environmental impact assessment. 2026: We spend a decade on reports, consultations and legal battles, and still can’t build basic infrastructure. Somewhere along the way, we lost the ability to just get things done.
