Isaiah Drake, Eye’ve Come to My Senses. Eye Can’t Do This Anymore, Digital Media, 2020. This original poem & hand-designed typography, deconstructs the names of the ordinary, everyday tech applications that demand our time & attention, exposing the truth about what we deeply love

Ashley Thursby,#SocialArtisting, Multidisciplinary Dance Film, 58 sec, 2020. Ashley’s video of graceful dance was part of a personal challenge to create weekly intentional movement explorations made in collaboration w/ Dan Bryan (editing) & Daniel Gilliam (music).

“Last year was a time to sit & reflect on the world around us: protest, Covid & secluding ourselves from others. Doing this chauffeured in new ideas, which inspired my body positive project. I thought about, through the midst of chaos, I will continue to love myself.”

Rheonna Nicole, The Mouth & The Hair, Poetry, 2020. During quarantine, Rheonna started writing appreciation poems about her body, taking the time to really look at herself & find the right words.

Sean's subjects are isolated & carefully lit, highlighting the unique qualities that each possesses, while creating a story about where he lives. In his own words, he “appreciated the opportunity, most of all, to share the photos--they're simple but have a purpose…”

Sean Patrick Hill, Soap, Ektachrome 100 (Archival pigment print) & My Mother's Lamp, TMAX 100 (Gelatin silver print), 8x10, 2020. Sean focused on creating images of ordinary objects in his home using large-format & macro photography.

The project also allowed her to share some important time w/ her grandmother, who was affected in a profound way by the process: “…she had never seen something designed as a tribute to her hard work & effort.”

Morgan McGill, Arthritis in a Crisis, Pen, paint on paper, 17x22, 2020. Morgan's project presented an opportunity for her to explore as a mixed-media artist, allowing her to technically think through creating a portrait using pen & paint.

Noisebody, Still Life, Composition for piano, 2 min 31 sec, 2020. “[This project] pushed me forward as a composer & musician & allowed me to contribute something I hadn't found in the Louisville music community.” louisvilleartsnetwork.org/july-artists/p…

Guillermo A. Sollano, Unity, LightJet Print on Ilford Baryta Paper, 13.4x12 & Faith, Chromaluxe Aluminum print, 40x32. “All of us have the need to belong, to contribute, to love & to be loved; I wish people could see that; life can be so simple & much, much better.”

Inspired by our limited movement during early quarantine & the beauty of the Kentucky landscape, Anne created her painting w/ a sunset color palette & attention to light & atmosphere. The result is a spacious landscape that reminds us that nature can calm fear & provide joy.

Anne Borders, Tango Sky, Acrylic on canvas, 36x48, 2020 “This project was a golden opportunity to get out of my own way & let my intuition & experience guide me…I had a sense of the emotion I wished to capture w/ this large painting-freedom-& everything evolved from there.”

Over the next few days, we will highlight a selection of projects as part of our Anniversary Celebration. Last year we shared a range of projects from paintings to piano compositions to poems, all illustrating the collective desire to connect w/ & help others through art.
