MBA Swim & Dive

It was a great first week back from break with a number of MBA teams having success. Both Varsity and Freshman Basketball beat Ensworth while the Wrestling team won over a top team in Williamson County and was competitive in a tough field featuring teams from multiple states at the Father Ryan Invitational. Other highlights of the week included success for Junior School Swim & Dive, Varsity Hockey and several Junior School basketball teams. Needless to say, athlete of the week was hard to choose! HS Athlete of the Week: David Taft '26 MBA Varsity Basketball has gotten off to a strong start in region play with a 2-1 record including a big road win over Ensworth on Thursday. David Taft played a huge part in making that possible as he was key in overcoming a halftime deficit with a dominant third quarter stretch. Taft's season-high 18 points were second on the team, and his play on the defensive end was equally as important in securing the victory. JS Athlete of the Week: Gus Stahl '31 Junior School Swim & Dive won a rivalry showdown on Saturday at Ensworth High School as the Big Red defeated the Tigers 128-44, winning each individual event as well as the overall meet. Seven individuals claimed event titles but it was seventh grader Gus Stahl who was most impressive as he won both the fastest race of the day (50 free) and the longest (500 free). Final scores: MBA 89 ENSW 94 The Big Red finish as runners-up in the division. The team will swim one final regular-season meet next Saturday before Regions on Friday 1/23.

MBA finishes 2nd out of 20 teams at the SnowBall. The Big Red had three event-winners: Ben Mantle (50 BR, 100 BR), Henry Krebs (100 FL), & Hamp Lefler (100 IM). Month of winter training coming up! Next meet is 1/10 against Ensworth.

Meet Day! Swim & Dive heads to Sewanee for the SnowBall Invite. Competition begins at 2 PM. Final races before exams & winter break.

What a weekend it was for the Big Red! Our athletes of the week all come from action on Saturday as junior school wrestler Elan Michaeli dominated at the MBA Duals with a 6-0 record, winning all matches by pins, while varsity swimmers Evan Xu and Sam Layne won competitive races in a meet against Ensworth and McCallie. Congratulations to these three athletes, and we can wait to see them keep up their success as the season continues!
