When I taught HS, I absolutely felt this. But then I started teaching middle school. We are the real MVPs! As I tell the kids, you’ve got to be a little nutty to not only teach MS but also to like it. Guess that makes me a bag of peanuts!🤣

Just released today - @amle: Sit-and-get professional development helps us think differently and hopefully inspires us to pursue topics in more depth, but it's usually the conversations and actions after PD that have lasting impact. And wow, how do we process the information firehose that just washed over us and make those ideas relevant to our own classrooms and leadership? Oh my goodness, yes to this whole 🧵! As an 8th grade teacher, I'm only seeing the tip of this in how it changed state law, but nothing being offered hits what it should how it should to benefit all kids.

Most if not all resistance to shifting trends in literacy instruction comes not from teachers opposed to teaching phonics (few are) but from those who recognize the harm of culturally destructive boxed programs that keep us from giving our students what they need & deserve

@mrbgilson @TeachingSolved A lot of the chats I used to follow / participate in all died off around the time ownership changed (not sure if it's correlation or causation), so a lot of what drew me to be active here stopped. I still lurk though. And yeah, the community is not as vibrant as it once was.

I do mourn a community of educators who used to be here regularly sharing and learning from each other. I do not miss the weird way some folks ruled as celebrities. We are all the same in this hellscape now LOL
