@MMakijenko Not too eventful. We had made offers in the past, but they always fell through, or we never heard back. Finally agree upon an amount that made sense for us. I also think the owner finally decided it was time to give it up. A domain isn't worth anything if you hold it forever.

A lot of people think that running your own business is risky, while having a job at a big company is safe. I’m not sure that applies in tech anymore. WordPress isn’t growing with the momentum it used to, and our new sales are slightly down this year - but renewals now make up 60% of revenue, which keeps things stable. Even if revenue fell, it would be gradual and not overnight. Meanwhile, so many talented people lose their jobs - and 100% of their income - suddenly, through no fault of their own 😢 It takes time to build a sustainable business (a big “if” 😅), but once you do, it can actually be the safer path. That’s why I think it’s a shame that after being laid off, most people immediately start looking for another job. I know many need a steady income right away, but for those who don’t, this could be a chance to explore other paths instead of jumping straight back into employment.

@techjewel Been there…I’m the founder of famous WP project. Yet, I have experienced a very well organised and executed grey/black marketing campaign. It is the lowest point for me in my WordPress journey

In 16 years with WordPress, I’ve only felt welcome (except today). From meetups to Big WordCamps, this space has always been about code, kindness, and collaboration, no matter where you’re from. But today, for the first time, I opened a competitor’s “comparison” page and saw this: “Bangladesh-based” (like it’s a flaw) @FluentCartWP is open-source, our company is registered in the USA, and yes, I (the founder) am proudly from Bangladesh. Comparisons can be full of crap. That’s understandable. Everyone wants to look good. But turning someone’s home country into a negative? That’s low. That’s not competition. That’s not marketing. That’s small, childish, and honestly? It feels like racism. We don’t compete by tearing people down with flags. We build, share, and grow together. That’s WordPress. I have friends running similar products. We chat, we help, we grow together. That’s the ethos. Let’s keep WordPress kind. No borders. Just heart. 🌍❤️ (PS: Please do not mention the company name! The point is the behavior, not the brand.)
