I mean, from another angle nothing I said is true because you may be able to mobilize apathetic voters or change the minds of more engaged people, yadda yadda. But all of that is downstream from accepting that the most immediate and measurable cause is almost entirely random.

Formally, it's near identical to the impulse to religious faith. It's more comforting to say the white working class is revolting against neoliberalism or that Bernie Bros didn't vote than to admit our shit system just lets this happen sometimes and no one can really predict it.

I see this in class when I teach Watchmen all the time. Once it clicks for them on the first day what they’re up to in the book, someone always says “oh so it’s like The Boys” or “Kinda like Invincible.” And it’s like, yeah, but in 1986.

reading watchmen is kinda like watching citizen kane because a lot of it is just the fiction of superheroes unsuitability with real life and the childlike nature of the genres edges brushing up against reality which seems basic now but moore was like the first guy doing this

I think if I had 100 tries, I possibly could. Before I got injured in college, I was facing 87-96mph with some pretty good movement, off speed, etc. I wouldn’t say it’s a walk in the park, but i think after 20 pitches, I could be down with timing and have 80 left to do something! 💪

@yandjoshi At the least, saying it isn’t Tolkien adherent is really weird. Tolkien wasn’t exactly a raging feminist, and all the soldiers except for Eowyn in the books are absolutely presumed male. Like, if you want to argue in favor of revision, fine, but weird to call it book-inaccurate.
