In no particular order: teacher, spouse, father, historian, still puzzling over Omega's Kiwi accent in Bad Batch.

Everyone who opines about "hard power in the Pacific" should study Victor Davis Hanson's "The Second World Wars." Everyone--Hitler, the Japanese, the Brits and the US--built battleships at the expense of carriers. Hanson says Japan would have won the Pacific War if it had built another 16 carriers instead of battleships, and Hitler would have ruled the North Atlantic if he did the same. Battleships were sitting ducks for cheap torpedo planes then, and carriers are sitting ducks for cheap Chinese missiles today. The fact that our admirals and their camp-followers want to build more of the same sitting ducks shouldn't surprise anyone--that's what militaries have done from time immemorial. Trump is right, and the pundits are wrong: Concentrate on missile defense. @VDHanson

Banning smartphones in schools is good for learning and well-being. New study of 400+ middle schools in Norway: after smartphone bans, girls had fewer mental health issues & better grades. Boys and girls were less likely to be bullied. Smartphones belong at home or in lockers.

🚨VOUCHER ALERT🚨 A lot of eyeballs in Tennessee legislature are on HB390/SB191 - which could become a vehicle for school vouchers, skipping Finance Committee. The budget bill, on the House floor at 4 pm, has funding for vouchers. A GOP leader assured me recently that the bill would NOT be used for vouchers, but things can change. Next step will be watching House Calendar and Rules, which meets sometime today. HB390 needs a vote there to move to the House floor. wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/…
