@RachelT1722 What about Anglo-Saxon England? England came into being before the Norman conquest and y’all got Frenchified.

I almost never have been asked where I went to college, slightly less than about my major but way more than gpa. Don’t fret. Unless you’re a high flier those things count for little. Go to school and learn!

@IronDuk05186191 We can put an exact date on our founding though, 1776. How do you date England’s? I would say yours is even older because I wouldn’t think that the Norman conquest would be the start of England, a country with Celtic and Germanic roots.

The USA is 250 years old. England is way over 1.000 years old. No offence to Americans.

I was alive for America’s Bicentennial in 1976, when Republicans and Democrats celebrated our 200th anniversary together as proud patriots. Fifty years later, as we mark the 250th, many on the modern left refuse to celebrate and won’t even admit pride in being American. Our public schools and universities have spent those decades indoctrinating students, eroding national pride. If this continues, I fear what our Republic will look like in 2076.

@Hengist927 @aiyanajadee Let’s see. Romans, Germanic invaders, Normans, almost the Spanish. England has been the bitch of a few before. And in an Anglophile.

Told someone that Americans celebrate the 4th by drinking beers, eating hot dogs, and watching fireworks and they said “that’s it? Nothing celebrating the independence?” Like sorry do you want us to sit inside and write letters to the founding fathers

@Lord_Sotheary @aiyanajadee Really? I find that hard to believe and I’m not one to normally give much credit to Americans’ grasp of history.

@aiyanajadee There was a survey that stated that half of Americans don’t even know why the 4th is celebrated.

I think highly of people who have great privilege but are humble enough about it to try to make the world better for others.

@newinattica I can see why you’d miss those things. I certainly would if I lived in Europe.

As an American living in a large city in Southern Europe, there are definitely some things I miss: 1. Central AC. I want it cool in every room. Even when I wake up first thing in the morning. 2. Biscuits and Gravy. And good bacon. The stuff over here is just gross. 3. Having a yard. And a place to park my car. 4. Thanksgiving and July 4th 6. A decent burger from a drive-thru. I’m not choosing between In-and-Out and Whataburger. I like them both. 6. A bank (or post office) that’s open in the afternoon. 7. Getting groceries, medicine, tires, and ammo from the same store. 8. Diet Dr Pepper 9. BBQ not being a verb, but being a noun. It’s meat cooked low and slow. SC, Memphis, Texas. Doesn’t matter. I love it all. 10. Bojangles, Chick-Fil-A, and Tex-Mex restaurants on every corner. 11. College football. It’s better than NFL, I don’t care what you say. 12. Ice. I’m sure there are others. What would you add?

@BGayCom That’s very disappointing, somewhat surprising, somewhat not. I’d love to see Turkey reverse course and head back toward modernity and Europe.

🇹🇷 Turkey has blocked the Atlantis all-gay cruise from docking, saying the passengers' "behavior" is incompatible with the country's moral values. The ship has now replaced its Turkish stops with Egypt and Crete. Atlantis says it's the first such ban in its 36-year history.

I read this disturbing @nytimes essay and a few of the writer’s choice words stood out to me: moderation, dignified. They are admonitions from a gay man that our diverse community is not complying enough with our oppressors.

@clevefan1979 In some ways I think basketball fills the cultural and practical niche in the US that might be filled in other countries by soccer/football.

A lot of Americans don’t understand why soccer is a popular sport worldwide because we are a spoiled country. Soccer is a cheap sport. All you need is a ball and 2 goals in a field. Many countries dont have the luxury of American sports.
